Hi REM,I can’t believe you are out! I’ve been up to my ears since January. Hass is finally gone and now there is large amounts of Lamb and Reed to work on. I think the key for me Is to have multiple trees of the tried and true varieties to keep us well provisioned - Hass, Carmen, Lamb, Reed. Cool to see the up pot. I just planted a couple of Fuerte seedlings I had in pure sand for past year or so. Sorry to see the Fuerte drop. Mine has lost a lot after a heavy fruit set. I had a fairly good fruit set on Nimlioh and many keep dropping. It’s as if the young tree knows it’s going to get its butt kicked by the fruit. Many of the baby Nimlioh are already the size of an average Hass.

@@SVmathfarmer hi professor, I can't complain too much since I made it this far this year. Some of my trees would have made it longer but I kept on losing fruit to squirrels so I ended up picking more and gave a lot away. Totally agree with you on having the big producers like lamb and Reed, if my original Reeds were real, they would be really good sized right now. It's all good, catching up now. I'm still loosing fruit from the heat daily, it's slowing down so that's a good thing. Well see, thanks for watching and I'm happy to read your comments!

Would have been really interesting to see the state of the roots as it came out of the old pot because that was a pretty small pot for such a big tree (at least in my experience; I'm guessing that's also why you decided to up-pot it in the first place...). I would have expected it to be severely root-bound but I couldn't see many roots in the video so I'm not sure if it was just the video/framing/angle or just the tree simply not having that many roots. Anyway very cool regardless 👍

If you live in SoCal It would be good to report this to UC Riverside bc there is an invasive fly that has recently been a serious potential threat to avocados - here is some info you can read Tau fruit fly This Asian species can destroy large amounts of produce, including avocados, citrus, and tomatoes. The flies attack fruit directly, laying eggs under the skin, where maggots develop and destroy the fruit. In July 2023, more than 20 flies were detected in Stevenson Ranch, Los Angeles County, prompting a 79 square mile quarantine. Officials believe the flies arrived in California through uninspected produce brought in by a traveler. To prevent the spread, residents were asked to move pumpkins and gourds indoors, and not move fruits and vegetables around their homes. If fruit flies are not eaten or processed, they should be double-bagged in plastic and thrown in the garbage. The risks to humans are not fully understood, but there is a theoretical possibility that the flies could transmit tau protein, which could trigger an immune response or interfere with neuron function

Hey REM - Always enjoy your video updates. Keep them coming!! I mix potting soil similar to Gary's Top Pot, which essentially is what you've created. My soil is very sandy, so I can mix a bit of that into the pot without it making the mix too dense. All my new trees, which are still in pots, are doing better since I put them under shade cloth and also trimmed off the damaged/dead branches. They are now ranging between 5 to 8 feet in height. Im putting the Surround on my tomatoes and peppers now. I know for fact that both are seriously affected by the intense sun and heat. And have been putting them in pots under shade cloth that helps immensely. But one of the benefits is the critters dont like the clay residue so I will experiment with veggies in my back yard canyon area where all the critters are and see if it helps. I have been growing in pots near the house because of all the pest damages. I use 1/2 cup to 1 gallon of water. Or 3 Tablespoons for a 20 oz trigger spray bottle. Luis Nursery, Riverside puts it on all their avocado trees I bought them. And I have a few and they are all doing fantastic here in the middle of summer.
