No one can watch this and say that the West is not in severe decline. Look at how peaceful, clean, orderly and sophisticated everything was. 1969 was the last days of it. The Boomers were given everything, and destroyed it.

One of the greatest tv series ever made.Without getting into a long debate about Sociology:Or the Post modernists:and it being the antithesis of the likes of Kenneth Clarke. There is a place for both if we are to understand the World we live in today and appreciate the past good and bad.I don’t like the way we are now with either a right or wrong view amongst everyone everywhere. We should share and debate, not close off each other’s opinions and perspectives. Right that’s out of the way and can get back to watching 👀

Sir Kenneth conveniently omits to describe the role which Christianity played in bringing down the Roman Empire. Libraries were burnt down, statues destroyed, Plato’s Academy shut down. What follows was the Dark Ages.

And you conveniently omit the utterly Christian Constantinople, where Rome lived on and shone as the brightest light of humanity for another seven centuries, and was the flame that rekindled learning in Charlemagne's lands and later in the Renaissance.

If it were televised now few would watch, the dumbing down in the last 30+years of British media has done its job and we elect the likes of Johnson and Starmer with clowns in between. Rupert Murdoch did his worst.

Western civilisation is to be celebrated. Yes there were some bad aspects, but on the whole it dragged whole populations from grinding poverty, short lifespan, constant war and misery. A constant struggle just to stay alive.
