I shoot Hornady black for the 450 and Winchester 215 gr for the 400 and and Winchester 180gr . Zig we aren’t punching that orange we aren’t sighted in over here in Ohio . Happy hunting

Nearly all Ruger American bolt guns have a very rough bolt, with an above average accurate hammer forged barrel. That and I dislike the loud safety on the Ruger. The Mossenberg has a great action and safety and normally not very accurate barrel. If you get one that is accurate, that is awesome, you have a keeper.

The 400 is the new kid on the block. It catches up to the 450 by the time you get to 200 yards. It's flatter shooting and holds it's energy better. Have to mail order ammo, or reload for it at this point. If all your shots are under a hundred yards and don't mind the recoil then the 450 has the advantage. The 350 legend is plentiful but doesn't have enough energy past 150 yards. The 400 is good to 200. 215 grain bullet vs 185. I think the 400 is a fine all arounder. But time will tell.

I might have missed it, but were either of these rifles zero'd prior to grouping them in this video? If they were, I'd be sure to re-torque all of your scope mount fasteners and ensure the scope reticle is square with the bore. I'd argue the shot group's size, and it's actual location on the target are two different things. The group location can obviously be adjusted for within the scope. If you have holes touching each other, but the location is higher than your point of aim, then you have excellent groups whose location simply needs to be adjusted for within the scope. If it were me, I'd get some sort of MIL reticle scope and get a dead nuts 100 yard zero with both rifles. Laying out prone on the ground and resting the rifle on a stable rest will help take a lot of human error out of this equation. I'd shoot no less than five rounds per group to ensure you have a good average of the accuracy you, the barrel, and ammunition are capable of producing Once a dead nuts 100 yard zero is obtained, I'd then shoot 5+ round groups at various distances while holding my point of aim dead center on the target, then making a note of where your point of impact is relative to the MIL dots/hash marks in the scope's reticle. For example, if you are POA/POI at 100yds, but at 150yds you're one MIL low, you now know your holdover for 150yds is 1.0 MILs high which should be the first hash mark below the center crosshair. This way you can quickly and easily make on-the-fly hold over/under shots based on this data. I have this "DOPE" (Data Of Previous Engagements) written down on a notecard and taped to the stock of my rifle. Very interesting video though! I hope 400 Legend takes off, especially since it seems to have the power of 450 Bush but with significantly less recoil!
@iowatimberfreaks71024 ай бұрын
Yes, the 450 was zeroed at 150 last deer season, both scopes were checked for proper torque before shooting. I would probably get mil scopes if I didn’t party hunt, and was to sit in a blind. Usually taking shots quick with little to no time to range. Would have shot prone however given the hay being 7-12 inch stubble would make it difficult. Unless I got elevated platform which might in the future. I didn’t show the last groups, but I have both guns about 1inch high at 100yrds now. With my necked down cartridges I probably will use some of these ideas appreciate the feedback.
