I bought my red 1983 2.8 injection in August 1991 and was also in cardinal red. Now it's Honda Milano red. It's had a load of new parts including track control arms, steering gaiters, tie rod ends, hand brake cable, brake discs, hi-spec 4 piston calipers, custom built 1 piece propshaft, aluminium radiator, hand made brake pipes, to name a few. So after sitting in the car port over 4 and a half years (2 years due to being a key worker due to covid) I finally got to drive her a few weeks ago. It would have been sooner but I then had to work 2 jobs. So I've owned her over 33 years now and she is still the best car I've ever had.

It's old but gold, its certainly done me well with anything I have needed to do. I paid around 4k about 2 years ago I didn't have a big budget for a machine and had to be patient but eventually one came up. There seems to be alot of scams regarding machines for sale which makes finding a genuine one difficult. I was amazed at how bad the fuel filter was, its been running perfectly since.

Hopefully it was just the push rods that bent and not the valves
@MeadowcraftingАй бұрын
It had bent all of the exhaust pushrods I replaced them and the rockers and it ran fine for a bit but then started making alot of noise, turns out it had smashed the lifters to pieces.

What distributor do you have on the pinto, and what petrol are you using.my pinto knocks on E10. It's a nasty man made fuel.

On my Capri I had a bosch points distributor with timing set around 10 degrees at idol with the vacuum blocked. The cortina has a sierra electric bosch distributor, I always run my older carburettored vehicles on e5 superunleaded.

Can I ask what welding equipment / wire / gas you are using. I'm about to start playing with the 'ole electric glue myself, and as I've not used my welder for several years, I suspect I need to buy some new wire.
@MeadowcraftingАй бұрын
I use a sealey turbo 185 mig welder with argon co2 mix gas, 0.8mm wire. If you get it set up to where its blowing holes then turn the power down until it isn't blowing holes and the weld has decent penetration into the metal you should be fine. If welding on the chassis you should be able to turn the power up more.

I don't t remember it being too bad to do as I had cleaned the splines up on the rack and column. It definitely made it alot easier to remove the manifold having the steering joint out of the way.

@Meadowcrafting3 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks the 3.0 m57 is only around 180bhp so it's not the fastest having said that mine doesn't struggle on hills and it tows my 3ton digger very well! Is it engine oil leaking or fuel? I had a fuel leak from the mechanical pump on the engine.

My friend just bought a 2005 Range Rover Vogue L322 today with the same engine as the one featured in this video, a TD6 3.0 Litre BMW M57 (D30). First stop is the Shell petrol station to put in a full tank of V-Power Diesel, then head to a hand car wash to detail it, and then next week off to a Range Rover specialist to have it fully serviced. Your video was quite good, thanks for uploading it.

Good description of the process but I would have taken the fuel tank and filter out, even though it is a Diesel.

Did this originally come with a cover over the carb intake to stop water splash or spray entering the carb? Can you fill the head with salt-away, muriatic acid, CLR or similar and let it sit and percolate a while to help clean the passages in the block....? You may have to place the machine in a funny position so the exit tell tale hole is uppermost...and fill it from there.... Do you have the 25:1 needle in so you can use a good TCW3 (water-cooled outboard engine) 2 stroke synthetic mixing oil.... that would cut a huge amount of smoke output....
