@CambriaJunction6 ай бұрын
@@MattTheUPRailfan2006 yes, HS2 is the new high speed line that's being built in the UK, from London to Birmingham. There are a number of tunnels along the route, including some as it passes through north london. These concrete segments are made in a factory out in Kent, then they are brought through London by train and delivered to the work site in Ruislip.

Who drags them before the eurotunnel? Presume Le Shuttle drag them through and then into a freight port for RA to take over, but correct me if im wrong
@CambriaJunction9 ай бұрын
I think RA bring them as far as Calais on the other side? They are then brought through the tunnel by DB or GBRf class 92s - not Le Shuttle - to Dollands Moor freight yard near Folkestone. Then it's a DB or GBRf class 66 from Dollands Moor to Wembley ...and then RA's own class 43s take them north from there.

Why do they intersperse cargo wagons?
@CambriaJunction9 ай бұрын
As far as I understand: partly to add braking force (the 777s' brakes can't be used) and partly as translators between the different coupling systems.
@neilcrawford83039 ай бұрын
The cargo vans have height adjustable and interchangeable adaptor couplings, while the flat wagons carry concrete slabs for additional ballast weight. The 777 are transported unbraked and through piped. You can see the brake pipe exiting the cab side window at the rear of each unit. They run the length of each unit. That way, should a coupling fail and the train splits, the brake pipe continuity will be lost, and the air pressure released, activating the brakes on the locomotive and the wagons. The 777 vehicles are sandwiched between the braked wagons to prevent a runaway in such circumstances. The wagons also provide additional brake force to the 66 during normal service brake applications.
