Did I hear the claim that Australia won both world wars??? Assisted maybe just like England assisted. But if it wasn't for the USA doing the majority of all forms of battle, much of the world would be speaking a different language. 😁👍🇺🇸

shocking how expensive the inreach mini 2 is. especially compared to other Garmin products. for example, a fish locator has a full color touch screen, detailed maps, GPS, as well as sonar, a transducer, and very detailed menus and features. A locator such as the Striker 4 has all of those feature and is only about $150. By comparison, and inreach mini has way way less to it than that, and shouldn't cost more than $100. Instead, it sells for $300-400 and on top of that you have to pay monthly for it. I understand the subscription fees, but the base unit is extremely expensive for what Garmin sells in comparison, when you look at the piece of hardware and how it lacks so much compared to other Garmin products.

Initially when I started riding ADV bikes, I started with the Africa Twin which was too tall and heavy for me off road. I kept it for two years then I bought a RE Himalayan which was a great bike on gravel and trails. I kept it for three years. This year I bought the 2023 KLR 650S. I’m really looking forward to putting a bunch of miles on this bike. I’m 5’4” and 70 years old.

From the way you describe the different bikes, I can tell that you are still living in the glorious past of the British empire where only the west is capable of producing quality products including motorcycles. Remember this is exactly what people in the west did mocking Japanese motorbikes( and cars) in the beginning, and western motorcycle magazine talked and compared about crappy Japanese bikes and British iron motorcycles. Oh well, I guess to each their own.

I’m 5’9” fit and been riding over 30 years under most circumstances I’m not bothered about seat height, I just ride. But for me the best use of an ADV is touring and in those circumstances with my wife and full panniers/ top box I like to feel sure footed, especially if the ground is uneven or wet.

Great video, but I reckon the sub prices may have changed, cheapest useful per month annual plans now Zoleo AU$32(US$21), Garmin AU$40(US$26)('safety' plan is useless, basically is using device as a PLB), SpotX US$15(AU$23). Garmins plan is a joke though it might be hamstrung by Iridium. SpotX isn't too bad but is charged in US$ and the AU$ is tanking right now but is still heaps cheaper per month than the other two. Irritatingly SpotX basic plan is 10 minute tracking but Gen 4 is 5 minute on same plan price, if you want 5 minute on the SpotX then the plan is up there with Garmin's price and the basic plan has some 24hr reset thing. Personally for comms I have a Thuraya satphone at $16.50 a month, tons more useful in an emergency but no tracking.

I'm 160 cm tall and just bought a Triumph Tiger 900 Low. I absolutely love this bike and just made a video about why I as a short rider went from Honda Rebel to the Tiger. It's in norwegian, but captioned in english if you want to have a look. :)

Thanks for the kind words Fieldsy, the Expedition Pannierz are old hat now, long since superseded by our Avduro Panniers. Pockets both ends and buckles behind those to help secure to the frames. Andy.

Just purchased Forma Adventure £1⁷9 UK £ from Sportsbikeshop. I only bumble along byways and mostly bimble around the slumpy fen roads of Cambridgeshire. These boots will be better than my £55 Rexel short boots. And they're just the style I like.

on-road I'm fine not being able to flat foot, but off-road i feel like its needed for those moments where you need to put a foot down to stop the bike going over. what do you think? know of any techniques to get around this???

I get the impression your prices are in Australia dollars. You might make that clear. For those of us in the U.S. it creates an unfair sticker shock.

Have you found that the tank swells over time allowing it to hold more fuel ? Nothing worse than suffering from fuel anxiety when out past bumfuck nowhere I reckon. Good job winging it for a prototype install and no instructions. 👍🏻 🇦🇺 🍻

Great vid! Just looking at extending the range of my AT at the moment. I'm hoping to take it across the Simpson Desert and was thinking this could be the ticket. That said, I probably won't need it installed full time. Once you've installed it a first time, what do you reckon would be the time it takes to reinstall the standard tank? I'm thinking of chucking it on for long trips, then switch back when I get home. (I'm metro Melbourne, won't need 550 kms every day...)

Tiptoeing or sliding off the seat doesn't work for me, esp with wife & full luggage coz I need to hv full control at traffic stops when the bike is top heavy. Found the perfect solution in the Tiger 850. The LRH version absolutely lets me flatfoot the bike... but since I would rather not sacrifice suspension travel to reach the floor, reshaping the seat of the standard 850 allows me to hv at least a firm grip of the ground with the balls of my feet at all times. Wearing Blundstone workboots with thick soles at the toes also adds a welcome 1/2 inch to my short inseam for free.
