Wow, that was a super enjoyable watch! Snow looked great, the weather looked great, even with the wind, and your stoke is contagious!

I used to ski there in the 70's. There was a lot more snow back then. Thanksgiving to Easter was the norm. One year it opened on November 1, the day after Halloween. Before there was a chair 3 my ski buddy and I would traverse from chair 2 west (left as you look down the face) and ski past Cloudburst to Avalanche chute and the ridgelines beyond. It was steep and challenging. The more snow, the further down the highway we could end up. We then had to hitch a ride back up to the parking lot. The corn snow in the spring was awesome skiing. One day the ranger gave us a ride back. He was an ex B-class pro racer from Colorado who befriended us (we were in high school). He carved it straight down the face like it was nothing. Following him down the face, matching him turn for turn, and seeing exactly how he was turning and emulating it at speed catapulted my skiing to a whole new level. It's as though it was yesterday. I'm 66 now. Thanks for the video.

This year delivers so many new models of skis. It’s like every company has launched multiple new skis. Would love for you to chime in. Especially around all new Blizzards, and Nordica

It seems like most people go from Iron Mtn to Mt. Baldy. What made you want to do it from east to west? To me, it seems like that would mostly downhill, but perhaps it's tougher to find the way up the notches of Iron Mtn. I'm not sure and interested in your strategy too.

Hey there, I'm a 5'6.5 (169) cm 160 lb high intermediate / advanced skier that skis 60-40 Groomers - Trees/Bumps. I also enjoy carving (Though not super aggressively). Am kind of in between sizes and unsure whether to ski the 168 or 174 cm size. Which would you recommend due to the rocker in this ski? Thanks!
@AndyLewicky4 ай бұрын
I tend to think for ski length height matters more than weight, which might suggest the shorter, but if possible I would recommend demoing so you can be sure which size works best for you -- hope that helps!

"Not quite the playful beast the original Rustler was'... sorry, I'm just seeing this now in my YT algorithm feed because I'm looking at a new ski. However I think the playfulness aspect is picked up the Hustler series, so this redesign adds more distinction between the two. One thing I'm interested in is how skis perform at the middle or end of the day after a big dump of powder... in other words how does it go cutting through all that chunked up snow and crud....the playful skis are quite often not quite so playful in this very common scenario, which is where a more solid and heavy skis do better. I think this is where the Rustler 9 and 10 are quite well positioned... with the Rustler 9 more en-piste oriented and the 10 being more off-piste - but both able to do reasonably well across all conditions. Fair assessment?
@AndyLewicky6 ай бұрын
My position is less nuanced: don't ruin a great ski. The original Rustler was undeniably great. The new Rustler is undeniably more versatile. Yes, there's been an empty space in between the Rustler and the Bonafide (which is too stiff for most riders) for a while, but I would have much preferred they tampered with the Bonafide to fix that. I still think the Hustle is a bland ski that doesn't really fill any niche. That said: the new Rustler should add some of that late-date-chop management you're looking for. Give it a try and let us know what you think! :)

agree, I also realized that GS race class skies are not good for the slope as they work from such high speeds. So comming from FIS, I tested Volkl Racetiger GS "commercial" ski and its much more fun and has energy in lower speeds. Can be bent into quite short turns if necessary and still returns perfect energy in rebound. Ideal on the slope where there is people arround. Of course I am just expert and fit recreational skier, might be different for people with racing background.

An Andy Lewicky production is always God's gift to humankind. I recall the video you posted of your daughter negotiating MJB's quite capably when she was just a tad taller than the moguls and now I see that she is quite an accomplished skier. Your son rocks too. Love the tele skill you display in this latest production and the music is awesome too. Don't know how you get those amazing side on shots but then again, most things about good video production are beyond me. Warms my heart anytime I get to see a Lewicky production!

Wow, count me both impressed & humbled by your trek out to, up, down, and back out from Kendrick. By my own measure, that's at least 3.5 miles of horizontal skinning from 180 before even heading uphill at Kendrick. I've only managed a couple of small trek's up and down the smallish, bare hills about 1/2 mile west of 180 starting at the pull out at FR 191C (about 2 miles north of Hart Prairie Rd's north intersection with 180)...but I've never even "possibility thought" about trekking out and up Kendrick. I guess I now have a new goal. Many thanks for the share !

When I did this I couldn't park farther south along the highway because there was too much snow. That added about a mile (one-way) to the approach. Otherwise it's a reasonable distance and a very worthy destination. Enjoy! :)

That girl is a darn good skier. That young woman, I mean. I skied Baldy a little bit every winter from 1979-80 through 1984-85. One time, I think in about 1983, I was skiing Chair 3, and I think I was on the "Skyline" trail. I stopped about halfway down and I looked back up the trail. There was only one other person skiing down, and he was pretty good; not a technically "pretty" skier, but you could tell he was a strong guy and a strong skier. He had a very bomb proof, solid stance. So I'm just standing there, and he skis down to me and stops, and it's Arnold Schwarzenegger! And I go "Arnold!!" Because everybody knew Arnold even then, and even though the only movie he'd done at that time was Conan the Barbarian. Hadn't done Terminator yet. And he goes, "Conditions are pretty good to-day Yah?" And I go "Yeah, and it looks like you ski pretty good too." Or "you look like you've done a lot of skiing," or something along those lines. And then I kind of kicked myself because I was thinking "Well, of course, all the kids in Austria ski, so why wouldn't he be a good skier, and telling him he's a good skier makes it looks like you're assuming he shouldn't be, and who are you to be judging other peoples' skiing anyway, and now you look like an idiot." And he actually said, "Well, we all ski in Austria from the time we're kids you know.'" Or something like that. And I went, "Oh. Right." And then he goes, "Well, have a good day" and he skied on down. That was my brush with greatness at Mt. Baldy.

This Weight/Radius/Shape/Width is the famous package that was "stolen" from DPS Wailer 99 T2 Hybrids (most decorated ski ever), which was stolen from Ross Souls. Nothing new. This is an amazing ski for athletes, tree skiers, powder, soft snow. With that kind of rocker and front shape that's all you need for powder. They will float you. It has that "sweet spot". Amazing ski. True West Coast ski. American type of skiing. No metal, no groomer non sense. Very hard to find skis like that these days, because they build those stiff skis with metal for hard pack.
