Nice work, but that a/c shouldn’t have the IFF cheese slicer antennas leading from the horizontal stabs to the fuselage. That didn’t exist when that airplane was flying in those markings.

I like the steel wool idea, didn't think of that for some reason myself. I do have to ask about airbrushing the inks. Those were acrylic water-based inks and i have tried some myself but with poor results. What do you thin them with, or do you run them un-thinned and a higher pressure through a smaller needle or something else?
@SmallSoldierАй бұрын
@@ChoppersModelworks I'm the same way, I never think of something until I see it or hear of it somewhere else. I feel like I level up every time I learn something new. I thinned the inks down with distilled water but I also added some flow improver as well. The key is to thin them so they're basically tinted water. The pigmentation is quite high so that's why they're so vibrant compared to regular acrylic paint.

How heavily do you thin the oil paint?
@SmallSoldier2 ай бұрын
@@mikebalis9963 That really depends on what I’m trying to achieve on different parts of the figures but in general you can thin it at least 40-50% for the shadow areas and around 20-30% for the highlights. You want the highlights to be a little more opaque so they cover. This is just a rough guide I change the mixes and ratios with each figure. Does that help?

So could I get some more detail about how your thin your paint so you don't destroy the layer beneath? You said you add thinner to your palette. It helps the paint dry faster, more matter, and flows off the brush better. But when I do it, it destroys the underlying layers. So I wonder what you are doing different. If you covered this already, could you point me to the video? thank you.
@SmallSoldier4 ай бұрын
@@BuzzkillZone The paint is more like a glaze which dries really fast. Some paint like the highlight areas is more opaque and will take more time to dry. You have to work fast when using this technique this is why I use the thinner to dilute the paint so it dries quicker. You can also use a heat lamp to dry the oils faster. Hope that helps.
