IM looking at this tent for our motorcycle trips. So with the addition of two trekking poles, I think the added awning is a big plus if it can be used even during a rainstorm. That way you have a bit of ventilations still for those warmer trips when you get stuck in the rain. It also looked like it was fairly sturdy during wind . Has it held up well for yall?

Hans, you should try the Wolf tarp from Wild Sky Gear. For the purpose you are using it for, you could go with 1.34 dcf @ 55g! Also, check out the new Octa fabric hoodys from The North Face or Zpacks (soon). Warmer than Alpha Direct at a small weight penalty.

Hi Hans, which guylines do you use on the corner of the xmid on a pitch if the already attached guylines of the xmid are too short. And because for example of rocky ground near the corners of your pitched place you would like to add longer guylines to the corner guylines to find softer ground to be able to put in your pegs in the ground?

Hi Hans, Thankyou for such a wonderful breakdown of an ingenious modification to the X-mid 😊 I was always tempted by the Xmid for its low weight but the absence of an awning put me off. But your modification has re invoked my interest! I have a few questions for you How does this setup compare to the the Copper Spur (with it’s awnings out)? I’ve been tempted by the copper spur (2person long) since your review, but this xmid/tarp setup is very tempting because of the weight reduction. But I’ve used Big Agnes tents and they have a lovely aesthetic/comfort factor. Having used both how do they compare? In terms of: - ease of setup - spaciousness - comfort - stability I’ll be using the tent with my wife and we both meditate between 2-3 hours per day, so we need a spacious and comfortable tent where we can both sit up straight. (Our current tiger wall is a little too cramped to do the job!) Anything else you’d like to add. Many thanks, your perspective will be very helpful! :) Thanks for the brilliant videos! Lewis

@hanskirk-hiking9697 10 күн бұрын
Hi Lewis thanks for your feedback 😊 The tarp is working much better and you can leave the tent door open through the night. The X-Mid is a lightweight and strong tent in windy conditions The Copper Spur is very spacious and easy to set up. For me the X-Mid is the best choice in bad weather. The Copper Spur offers very nice indoor conditions. Hope that my answer was helpful

I apologise if it has already been answered, but I was wondering if the carabiner hack to get a pack off the ground might cause any durability issues with the tent? Good video. However one thing I missed is how weatherproof they are. Patagonia claim a DWR but I'm curious if that is only good enough for a very light drizzle/mist or copes with a bit heavier rain - I would not expect goretex level rain proof of course.

@hanskirk-hiking9697 Ай бұрын
Thanks, they are not waterproof but they dry quickly. I wouldn’t have them if they were waterproof, then they would not breathe so well. You could apply a new DWR coating, but it’s not necessary - them material will not soak up water. I hope my answer was helpful ?

After years - if not decades - of refusing to use any camping furniture, I have now bought a Helinox replica and a matching folding table. But: I will not be using this furniture for hiking, but rather for bike and kayak tours, where a little extra weight doesn't hurt and in the evening you can set up a cozy camp, often with friends who have similar furniture, and then you can sit in a convivial group. A floor which is connected to the chair legs mat helps to prevent you from sinking into the ground - I sewed one myself, and it only weighs a few grams.
