This is my dream job. Sadly the FAAs new rules on color vision pretty much ruled me out from ever holding a 1st class medical. Could have passed some of the old tests no problem, but not the new ones. Didn't know about the damn rule change until 3 weeks before it went into effect and I couldn't get an appointment with an AME until 3 days after the change. Now I'm stuck w a 3rd class and I'll never forgive myself for it. It is what it is

Idk who is more crazy yall or the people that do crop dusting. I live in an oilfield/farm region and ive had my rig rigged up over wells while theyre doing their thing and they ALWAY put on a show, definitely a different breed to do what yall do, stay safe blue skies

The AT802 is the same plane cropdusters fly. The Fire Boss version draws up water through the floats to fill the resevoir. I personally think the crop duster pilots are a little crazier. Google "cropduster near miss" for an exciting example.

4/14/93 my Ag Cat crop duster was hit from behind by a Navy A-6e Intruder. They bailed out and I woke up 5 weeks later in an ICU to find out what had happened. Search "joesgrain" (one word) for 3 news videos about the midair.

How long is the average shift on this job? It's serious focus and stress. 8hrs seems too long, but the job needs to be done.

Yup choose a job you love. 30 years as a career Firefighter and I always enjoyed going to work. Retired now and I still miss it. GREAT VIDEO. Fly safe.

that first drop, an uphill drop, made me nervous. i thought it was a big no no. but i guess situations are different worldwide. just looked to me he could have come from the other direction and made a safer down hill drop, it would have put him over the water with plenty of room on climbout. i was a firefighter in northern california and having talked to cal fire pilots over the years, they never did down slope drops, there were all kinds of reasons why, which i dont remember, but dude, ya scared me.. and yes i know you made it ok, i mean there wouldnt have been this video..lol

Are most of the fireboss pilots ex-military? Seems like very difficult flying. So much terrain. Updrafts from big fires. Lot of interfacing with water and then sudden mass dump. I cannot imagine how to execute all of it safely. Yeah you guys must be ex-military, neh?

Do not be distracted, avoid tight turns in the layer of hot air, especially at the vertical of the fires. Be very careful with this. Greetings! 😉

Fireboss, a great plane. Very economical firefighting assets.. It requires a lot of experience to scoop water in large waves at sea, especially if it has the PT6A-67AG engine (1350 HP). It's not boring :) I enjoy flying it."

What's the day to day of an aerial firefighter like? I can't imagine you are always on duty ready to jump into your 802? Are ther just one or two pilots who are paid to always be ready? Do you work other jobs or do you just fly fire fighting missions?
