Hello, awesome job. Very impressive. Ive went on Amazon and cant find pure aluminum powder? Im only finding aluminum oxides or different grits for abrasives. Can you tell me what exactly am i looking for? Thank you.

I used Aluminum powder Eckhart German dark Flake 10890 that I bought at a gun show a couple years ago. Looks like amazon stopped selling it, I did find some sources online that sell it for pyrotechnics, But one of the sites did say that "type?" was getting harder to come by. Sorry about that, I'll make a note in the video description.

Awesome, I was looking for a well explained video and you got it. By the way, do you recommend applying transparent to protect the graphite or will it make it dull?
@jasonofthehill5490 Жыл бұрын
I've only tried a couple clear coats and they both dulled it to plain grey.

Nice comparison! I'm glad you did both on the same model so you can see how they each turned out!

Hello, I have a question. After you applied the aluminum powder and polished the surface, did you apply a layer of clear coat afterwards? I'm afraid that some of the aluminum might come off later when you touch the skull.

Very interesting. I'm building the Face Tracking T-800 Bust from Cults3D and looking into how to get a decent metal finish. The Graphite looks very good in your video. I guess you shouldnt really touch it after due to the transfer of graphite ?
@jasonofthehill5490 Жыл бұрын
As long as you have given the glossy black paint several hours to dry, it should be ok. I didn't notice leaving any fingerprints or smudges in the finish. And after the paint has had time to fully cure (~24hrs) I haven't noticed any graphite come off. Graphite dust will "linger" in the nooks and crannies where it's difficult to buff all the excess powder off.

Love the aluminum powder idea it really makes it look like real metal! I'm going to try that when I build my terminator. Thanks for sharing and it looks great!
@jasonofthehill54903 жыл бұрын
Thank you, got the idea from Mando cosplayers using graphite on their armor. The graphite looks very metallic, but seems to let a lot more of the base coat show through and comes across much darker, where the aluminum looks very chrome.

@@jasonofthehill5490 That's really awesome. It does look like chrome. Any chance you can share where you got the aluminum powder from? I'm probably going to start my T800 build soon. Thanks for the reply sir.

How do you mean? I've been thinking about ways to try and move the camera into the eye, however I think the red led would overpower any images. Might be possible to make the led turn on/off with the frame rate of the camera, but would take some serious timing, I think the picam is like 20fps.

Hey Klaus, you're the first commenter on my channel! I 3d printed the mechanism (link in the description) and connected the two servos to an arduino nano, which is connected via usb to a raspberry pi. I used an arduino to run the servos because they seemed to be a little jumpy running straight off the pi. Using a piCam mounted in the forehead, I used openCV to get the facial recognition and mashed together a script using kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3qboHWJbM59epI and kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmSnZH9sbKh5eZY for tutorials/reference.

Edit: The paint on the skull in the video had only been drying for about 24hrs, and while dry to the touch it still had a bit of tack to it. Today I tried to apply the aluminum powder to a model that was painted 6 months to a year ago, and the powder wouldn't stick. Lesson learned - The powder has to be applied to the model before the paint has had time to fully cure.
