Edit: The paint on the skull in the video had only been drying for about 24hrs, and while dry to the touch it still had a bit of tack to it. Today I tried to apply the aluminum powder to a model that was painted 6 months to a year ago, and the powder wouldn't stick. Lesson learned - The powder has to be applied to the model before the paint has had time to fully cure.

I'm about to do some graphite work. So I'm assuming I should hit it with a light coat of paint again before i start the graphite? The paint has been curing for about 2 weeks now :(

@@l.emerson3699 Yeah, gonna have to let it cure for awhile too.

Nice comparison! I'm glad you did both on the same model so you can see how they each turned out!

Awesome, I was looking for a well explained video and you got it. By the way, do you recommend applying transparent to protect the graphite or will it make it dull?

I've only tried a couple clear coats and they both dulled it to plain grey.

Hello, awesome job. Very impressive. Ive went on Amazon and cant find pure aluminum powder? Im only finding aluminum oxides or different grits for abrasives. Can you tell me what exactly am i looking for? Thank you.

I used Aluminum powder Eckhart German dark Flake 10890 that I bought at a gun show a couple years ago. Looks like amazon stopped selling it, I did find some sources online that sell it for pyrotechnics, But one of the sites did say that "type?" was getting harder to come by. Sorry about that, I'll make a note in the video description.

Very interesting. I'm building the Face Tracking T-800 Bust from Cults3D and looking into how to get a decent metal finish. The Graphite looks very good in your video. I guess you shouldnt really touch it after due to the transfer of graphite ?

As long as you have given the glossy black paint several hours to dry, it should be ok. I didn't notice leaving any fingerprints or smudges in the finish. And after the paint has had time to fully cure (~24hrs) I haven't noticed any graphite come off. Graphite dust will "linger" in the nooks and crannies where it's difficult to buff all the excess powder off.

@@jasonofthehill5490 awesome, thank you so much for that detail.
