I dig it, keep up the series it is an interesting insiders look. I like the showcase of a locals hill, the people that work there to keep it operational and safe. I think we all long for a throwback to community hills and the vibes of yesteryear when skiing was an attainable activity for more people. Hoping to be out more in the coming year I miss skiing. Keep up the great work!

Speaking of speedier mountaineering techniques, what's your opinion on couples you see on Class 1-4 scrambles or "climbs" using SRL's as hiking tethers? (e.g. Guardian 10900 Halo Web SRL 11ft.w/nylon webbing)?

Thx for these videos! They were a great guide. Update July 2023 for future parties - the exit off the glacier coming down from Peyto (see video around 6:40) has changed a lot - you can no longer come down near the bottom as the glacier has melted, and the lake has become significantly larger. The exit is now higher up (a bit above the large crevasses you see in the video here), and you follow a set of cairns off towards your left (right on the photo) down a steep gully with a stream. Scramble down that to get down. We did it in dry conditions and it was fine, if it’s raining it would be quite sketchy and slippery.

I’m new to mountaineering, but why would I need to kick in steps as I hike? Isn’t that what crampons and snow shoes are for?
@mikebarter387 Жыл бұрын
Would you stop dig out your crampons to cross 15 feet of soft snow? Your new it will all make sense at some point

I'm curious about how this would work with multiple partners. Let's say you have a rope team of four on the glacier and transition to lower angle terrain with loose rocks. What's the best way to shorten the rope between each climber and not simply between the leader and second position? Would have folks untie (when it's safe), take in coils, and then retie their knots at shorter intervals or is there a better way to do it?

Isn’t this dangerous? I only think in what I’ve seen at movies: the ice breaks, the people fall down, the ice comes solid in a second and the person is still down.
