@@BrentLane1 they can be bought sometimes on ebay or you can make your own with cardstock and magnetic tape like from a cassette or vhs tape

Your explanation is super oversimplified. The screw has locktight on it. How do you clean it off and or heat it up to unlock the affect of the blue loctight glue? Push real hard on the screwdriver and smash the plate into the meter spring???

so the plastic cover comes off the front. You don't have to go inside, right?

@@ebonyivory149 not in my experience. On this machine, just had to remove a front cover. On some this screw is exposed on the back.

This looks like a 1530 or sister unit (1515, 1550, etc.). How do you get access to the meter to open it up? I can't quite figure that out yet.

I believe this one had that plastic cover just taped on. I have seen some meters which have the adjustment point on the back also. I can't recall what this machine was unfortunately.

Nicely done!, I have the KX-1030 and the Play, FF, RR, Record buttons don't stay latched. they latch for about 2 second and then pop up, Any clue why this is happening? Thanks

Is the tape counter working? If the counter is not spinning then most decks will stop all actions.

Isn´t the screw on front for calibrating and there is another one in the back fo tighten or loose the needle? might have worked this time, but i think that´s by accident...may be wrong though

Each meter is different. On this one, this screw is just the pivot.

Hello, You said you replaced the main drive belt, this is great !. Did you put a video on line ? I have KX-530 cassette deck (In France) and the belt is out. I got a new one , but I did not find any tuto for help. It seems not easy to do it. Based on your vidée it seems the cassette mechanical is the same on both models. Thanks

You must cut the dust cap carefully and use either thin plastic strips or strips of buss card between voice coil and center mag pole to keep gap correct. After foam is done, remove strips and carefully line up cap (matching cut, or mark before cutting), then glue it back. Otherwise your likely to have rubbing issues between coil and mag structure eventually damaging windings.

I just got one of these. Love it! You mentioned replacing a belt for the arm mechanism. Could you perhaps tell me where that belt lives and how I get to it? From the bottom perhaps? Mine works but it's kind of slower than yours when returning. And another issue I have is that the point where it senses the end of the record is a bit too far towards the center which causes the auto stop not to engage. It does work because when I move the arm a bit closer to the center it kicks in. Let me know if you have any tips for me. Best, Marco

Can you provide a new link to the surround please mate? I have a pair I wish to repair and not sure which is the right one! Also, how did they sound with the surround fixed to the front of the cone instead of the back?

It appears the seller on eBay doesn't have an active listing for them right now. If you follow the link and message the seller maybe he will get another run made to sell. These ended up sounding just fine the way that I affixed the new surrounds.

Here are specs that the seller put in the listing: inside diameter 2 7/8", ANGLED edge, inverted roll inside roll (cone diameter) 3 1/8" outside roll diameter 4" outside diameter 4 5/8"

God this brings back memories. I used to have something similar from disney, which recoreded sound on cards with magnetic strips. One time I made a funnny noise so funny that I laughed everytime I played it. One time I accidentally pressed the record button and it was overwritten. I was so sad... cried for days.

I haven an old audio recording pen that I did something similar to. I never overwrote it, but I'm sure the battery is long dead. I wonder if I could recover the audio. Hmm

Your story is so sad, its amazing to think about though. Its like the sound was a pet of yours that died. An erased favorite sound can really be compared to a life. I used to have one of those recorders that the kid uses in Home Alone (I was born 1985) and back then I thought it was the shit.
