Weird that they let him collect his winnings before he attempted the real pull. Why’d the other vehicles struggle so hard to move this thing?

What a lot of folks don't understand is that the military trucks based on the M44 chassis was not designed to be a "powerhouse", rather it was designed to carry a rated load efficiently over adverse terrain.

Seems to me that hitching to a point at or above the rear axles is going to lift the front end resulting in a loss of traction which was seen here. Yes it was a full pull, but if more sled weight is added it could well be a different outcome.
@jimsmith98192 жыл бұрын
it reduced traction on the steering axle, but increased traction on the drive axles
@joewoodchuck38242 жыл бұрын
@@jimsmith9819 Keep in mind that the front axle is driven as well and if the rears started to spin the front can then help pull.

Wonder what the 7 ton would do. 🤔
@Slim_Slid2 жыл бұрын
Much more than that five ton truck would ever do...That's from experience. MTVR's having the C12's are 425 HP/1,650 TQ while the 6CT's in the M923A2's were only 240 HP/602 TQ or around there,then the NHC-250's in the A1's and older had 250 HP/658 TQ. Seven ton trucks over the five ton trucks were assembled to be 30% better than trucks before them on reliability,durability,longevity,environments,capacity,capabilities etc you name it.

The M923A2's much like the A1's before them were one of the best five ton trucks out of all the cargo trucks/troop carriers. A2's were 1987-1994 and A1's were 1984-1987 while the original M923's rolled out in 1982. One of the main differences was that the A1's just like the M812's-M820's before them had the N/A NHC-250's from Cummins,until the A2's got the 12V 6CT's. Another thing was that their 1400×20's on the A2's had different tread and were updated with CTIS,A1's still had the super singles but never CTIS which would be seen since the front rims never had wheel guards in order to keep the air valves separated,and then the basic versions only had 42 inch dual tires,never 48 inch like the later variations. Even though the 8.3L in the A2's wasn't as power packed as the 14.0L,it was more durable and reliable in the long run.You couldn't run the SC 250 in the older series trucks at 2,100 RPM for a long time because they were notorious for breaking valve seals and piston bearings from that,or even throwing rods too.That was common when TM manuals suggested the engines were fine at 2,300 RPM...Wrong. It was a great thing when the Seabees and USMC went with the MTVR's and USMC also got the LVSR's when the old equipment was being phased out. It was a mistake getting rid of these elsewhere and going with the FMTV's...No longevity or long term reliability.

@Slim_Slid2 жыл бұрын
@@captiancrafter Wrong...A1's and A2's all came with Super Singles,both versions had the 48 inch Michelins,being the 1400×20's,but the A2's were the ones that came with CTIS...Read my paragraph. The first M900 series trucks before the A1's had the 42 inch Firestones,which were G177's at 1100×20's and then there was another type being the G172's. It's quite obvious when you see enough videos of these trucks here on KZbin or talk to those who own them... The older five ton trucks before the M900 series all used 39 inch tires which were non directional 900×20's and correlated being that the Deuce And A Halfs had the same set ups.
