I really love this piece so beautifully played here on truly amazing historical organ. I still have an old vinyl disc from my teens of Spanish Organ music played by Helmut Rilling which included this "Tocata de ma esquerra" Not knowing any Spanish at the time, I surmised that "esquerra" was a feminine form of English "esquire" and thought it might mean something like "toccata of my lady". I now realise that the title is in Catalan and "mà esquerra" means " left hand" or, in Castilian Spanish "mano izquierda". I'm not an organ expert but it would appear to require probably a single manual organ with divided registration so the lower part can be played on a punchy reed stop as here and the two upper parts on flutes. It is a very delightful piece with a lot of charm and skittish humour in three contrasting sections. A GEM!
