Don't they have bunk heaters in the cascadias? I drive for Schneider. We have bunk heaters to stay warm on the coldest of nights without worrying about flat batteries. It becomes a safety issue if drivers can't get enough sleep due to being cold at night.

It's the law. Western Express didn't do it. It is an EPA regulation, and it's everywhere.

So glad the way I worked myself into the industry 36 years ago never involved working for horrible scumbag companies like this. I never had any thoughts about Western Express either way until this video saying all these bad things. Low pay & doing crap like this to the drivers is sickening. Also, SWIFT's reputation is at a legendary status for bad drivers in the industry, and when you said this is where bad SWIFT drivers go it is mind blowing. Tbh it's scary

I worked in the office of a DFW, Texas based trucking company back in the late 80s. We had a heavy driver turnover then. And we were losing owner/operators left and right. I had an uncle who drove for another company. He had his problems with them too. My dad told me his brother in fact decked a couple of dispatchers. They must have done him dirty. I guess these companies have always mistreated drivers. I've also heard many were run by the mafia.

My company gave me a 2025 Cascadia and it has Optimized Idle with a bunk heater. But our mechanics have the trucks set up to idle with no timer if we don't want to mess with the Optimized Idle

For all of you guys that think that unions are bullshit here's yet another reason to have them. One person bitching gets nothing, everyone bitching together gets results in the form of a contract that guarantees minimum driver comfort standards.

I think this behavior is illegal via FMCSA. I believe the law/regulation requires the carrier to provide reasonably comfortable accommodations to allow for proper rest periods. Perhaps looking into a class action lawsuit for the drivers affected would be helpful.

Ok I dont like any of the big companies, But as an owner and being one for 35 years. These new trucks with the def systems idling, plug up the def systems. so they should just put webastos in them and thats eliminate the heating of the cab problem. But these new trucks idling is no good for the DEF systems at all

Yeah. Go ahead and show up at the dock outside of your appointment time. That means that someone is probably gonna have to take care of you, when the next shift is being paid to. Go ahead. The folks who you encounter while doing this know that you're just trying to play the system. So don't assume that you will be greeted with open arms and smiles. At least where I work, they won't make you leave the property while you wait for a window.

Most new fleet trucks are set up this way to abide by California EPA laws it not just a company decision. they still have heat with a form of Aux heater usually Battery power, the trucks will restart and idle up the recharge the batteries, If they dont then that is an issue with the truck that any dealer can fix. my company has freightliner certified techs so we can fix these issues ourselves

As a truck driver, I refused to drive ANYTIME there was a safety issue. The billion dollar company that I started with refused to give my wife and I an APU. we ended up at a dealership for repairs and payed the mechanic some cash to delete the automatic off when idle feature. We ran that truck all night when it was too hot or cold. AND THAT'S TERRIBLE FOR A DIESEL ENGINE

Can't idle my van for more than 9 minutes. How do you deice the windows in the morning? So I installed a deisel heater. Very efficient and I can run it as long as I want.

I don’t know how yall do it. I have an ‘18 Pete 389 with a ‘99 Detroit 12.7 glider. No APU, no DEF, no ELD…everything that has brought this industry to its knees. Western, Schneider, JB and Werner have cut so many throats and deflated rates, this is the result. The driver pays for it one way or another. Get experience, get your credit in order and buy a used glider. Can’t buy them new anymore. I’ll never go back to a company.

A Swede here, remember this is a cold ass country. It was decades ago that trucks idled over night to keep the cab warm. Get a diesel heater, it should be standard equipment. Heating the cab by idling is very inefficient.
@jimhewettjr3730
@jimhewettjr3730 4 сағат бұрын
You are 100% correct about idling being inefficient for heating. Auxiliary heaters cost money though, and companies like this only care about money, not the drivers.

Decades ago. Schneider National pulled a simular situation. But in the Texas heat. They pulled a driver out of one of their cabovers. Who literally cooked to death in the cab. Eventually, there comes a point where a driver will not only freeze to death. But the truck will gel up.
