My hound LOVES soft toys!! I find a higher quality plush lasts longer and I search for them in second hand stores to save money.

You forgot to mention they need their teeth cleaning everyday, especially as alot of these dogs come from kennels where they are only there to make the owners money. Sad but true!😢

Love you guys. Have 4 hounds myself. Please please wipe Magnus’s cheeks with some warm water and a paper towel. They fall asleep with their tongue hanging out sometimes and it can discolor their fur.

We used to call it his chicken moustache. We would clean it off with a warm cloth and dog shampoo. Scout cleans her muzzle after meals by wiping it in her bed. Magnus would not hence the marks on his muzzle. We would then have to clean it off for him. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.

I plan on being a teacher, and if i do end up getting a gig in-person, I'd be gone from like 7am-4pm.... I just wanna ask, do you think this would make me unfit to be a greyhound owner, considering their separation anxiety? :0
@magnusgreyhound11 күн бұрын
You would most likely need a dog walker or dog daycare if you would be gone for that period of time. We started with daycare with Magnus for the first few weeks after we adopted him then transitioned to a dog walker.

New retired greyhound mum to be here. I see yours and magnus before enjoyed chicken...did u leave in the bones? What other bones can they have as know magnus enjoyed a knuckle bone to on occasions lol 😂thanks 😅
@magnusgreyhound20 күн бұрын
We give our dogs chicken for breakfast. It can been frozen or raw but never cooked. Cooked bones splinter which can be dangerous. Raw or frozen bones are fine. Magnus was a big boy so we used to give him 2 chicken thighs for breakfast. Scout our girl gets 2 chicken wings for breakfast and Luka gets one thigh and one wing for breakfast. In regard to other bones we occasionally get knuckle bones or more recently beef rib bones. As a heads up, sometimes greyhounds can resource guard a bit when they have the bones. If you want to take them away you will have to offer them something else in exchange. They also can easily spend one to two hours knawing on the bones. All the best with your adoption.

We have had a dog before which we sadly lost last Sept but this be our first greyhound...your magnus did a grand job advertising the beautiful hounds. I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful hound with such a beautiful soul.
@magnusgreyhound20 күн бұрын
Thanks for your condolences for Magnus. He was a special pup. So smart and super sweet. I do miss him alot as he was my biggest fan and always by my side. Greyhounds are great dogs but The transition to home life can be challenging for some. Just take each day one at a time. It will take them a few days to decompress (not panting, pacing, drinking lots of water, or not sleeping).it will take them a few weeks to learn the routine so keep a routine for when you feed them and take them for walks etc as it will help them settle in faster. This worked well for Scout and for Luka. Give them some space the first day. Before you know it they will be all settled and you will forget about any challenges you faced on the first few days. That being noted some greyhounds settle in from day one. This was not the case with Magnus at first, he had sleep startle, separation anxiety, and resource guarding, and huge prey drive that we had to work through. We were complete dog newbies and we were able to overcome all these things. Magnus became an amazing dog, so it is worth investing the time when they first come home. I am sure you will do great, I did not have much info to go on when we adopted Magnus hence why I made the videos. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions
@jonandkate9720 күн бұрын
@magnusgreyhound thank you so much I'm sure there will be lots I have. I am so greatful you took the time to reply. When I asked about the sleep startle at the kennel she advised more have it than don't. So I'm going to play it safe and keep him on his bed or floor and make a quiet area and room for him. I'm just wondering if he be able to do stairs as I know alot can't at first inside. So I'm expecting I may be sleeping on sofa down stairs at first. I wishing I lived in a bungalow ha ha.
@magnusgreyhound20 күн бұрын
Neither Scout nor Luka has sleep startle so it is not all greyhounds, but it was acting like they do until you know for sure. Having there bed in a quiet place is the best thing to do, at least until you know them better. They can be sleeping and look like they are awake so they can catch you off guard. We had Magnus's beds out of the way so it was never an issue. In regard to stairs, there is a high chance that they have never done them before. We used to live on a second floor flat and Magnus did not know stairs but he was able to figure them out before we got to the top of the stairs on his first try. Scout took a few weeks to figure them out, so you may need to either carry them up or sleep downstairs at first. Greyhounds are generally kept with other Greyhounds there whole life so coming home to your house will be the first time they have been on their own. Due to this you may want to have them sleep in your bedroom at first. If you do not want this long term. You can gradually move the bed out of your room over time. Magnus used to sleep in the crate in our room at first. He then decided to just stay in the living room at night. If you do leave them on their own that first few nights, you may get loud whining or some barking. Again this is not all greyhounds. Some are okay on their own. I made a video about teaching your dog stairs. I found that finding a couple of steps outside is a good place to start as there are fewer steps and less steep than a staircase in a house. Hope this info helps
