Max, it’s Nicole! I randomly remembered that you have a channel and wanted to go back and watch another of your videos. So funny around 3:00 when you run back to get the camera - realistically, that’s what has to happen to get those shots! People don’t think about that. Your narration, music choices & placement, and footage in general is all so wonderful!! I hope you’ll film more of you and Savannah’s adventures, because you have such a knack for it! I’d love for all the other travelers out there to come across your channel as well! But even if your videos never get exposure, you and Savannah will cherish these videos for the rest of your life! No time was wasted on these!

You were in my neck of the woods in this video. I loved that spot and have happy memories being there before I became too disabled to hike or camp. The awesome view from the cliffs would always take my breath away. It was glorious to visit it again through your eyes. Your narration was educational and did this beautiful area justice. You have won a new subscriber. I look forward to enjoying future hikes with you. Peace from Downeast Maine.

Hi Max this is Dan. I worked with your wife last Summer in Augusta, Maine. My family wanted me to continue to make content, so we made a family account. I just hiked Franconia Ridge and made a new video. It was clear and amazing. I wish you would of had better weather last year, when you hiked it. You have inspired me to make better quality videos. Check it out if you want. I hope to see more content from you.

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching! At the time of our trip, there were no permits required for paddling or camping. I recommend looking into a backhaul service like Kayak the Colorado if you're ever interested in visiting. They have a FAQs page on their website that helps with trip planning. www.kayakthecolorado.com/

Nice overview of the trail. I’m thinking this will be my first adventure of 2024. I’m curious about the battery pack you brought with you. How many mAh capacity was the unit? Also, did you see any ticks out there?
@max.wright
@max.wright 11 ай бұрын
Hi! I believe I brought just an old 5000 mAh battery that actually failed in the middle of the trip (had to charge via a outdoor plug at a motel we passed on day 3 or 4). Since then, I've upgraded both my filming equipment and battery. I now carry a 20,000 mAh I found on Amazon. Ticks were not a problem for me in April. Hope you can make it out there this year. It's a gem of a trail for our state!

Here's my reply to a similar comment: Pretty amazing that we can see and interact with rocks that old, isn't it? I was actually a bit off in my video for the dates. Some more recent work on the Navajo Sandstone indicates a bit older age at about 200 million years old. The Navajo has been dated using two different techniques that, for our purposes here, generally agree with each other. The first method is by dating zircon grains within the sand itself and the second method is by uranium-lead dating of carbonate "lenses" that are occasionally found in the unit (I'm even standing in front of one of those localized carbonate layers during my little lecture part of this video). If you would like to learn more, I've linked some great resources on the subject below. Here's a great video from a professor that summarizes the Navajo, including the zircon dating. He begins talking about the ages at about 15 minutes in: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3-VmauqhNWWoNk And here's a great paper about the carbonate dating: pubs.geoscienceworld.org/gsa/geology/article/47/11/1015/573442/Earliest-Jurassic-U-Pb-ages-from-carbonate Thanks for watching!

Good question! There are various outfitters nearby where you can rent kayaks, canoes, etc. They'll give you and your kayak a ride upstream so that you can just float back down the river to Lee's Ferry (where we parked our car)
