Often with those old rust buckets, the floors and body mounts are also rusted to shit. The last thing you need is the seat going through the floor while driving.

You need another wheel for a spare tire in case you get a flat. Or are you taking a puncture repair kit with you or not anticipating getting a flat tire?

Spare tires get in the way. But is a good idea.

@@fitzeesfabrication.thefl-nf7hp Otherwise, seeing that the tires are tubeless, you could take a tire plug kit with you to fix a flat on the go. That's of course assuming it was just a simple puncture. But if you rip the side out a tire, you'd definitely need a a spare.

I had not heard the term "walking beam" so I had to look it up on Google. But I am familiar with this type of suspension setup to keep the wheels on the ground. It's pretty much the only way to do a dual axle trailer.

Another great video "Fitzee on low budget build" . I love them. Do you think that was easier or better than re drilling the hubs to a 4 bolt pattern?

The Gorilla Cart at Princess Auto on sale did pretty well as a walking beam trailer. Bent the spindle rescuing two broken quads with our last good quad coming from DEEP in the BC wilderness no fault of the trailer though, we had no choice but to get out. Bought another and welded reinforcements to the spindle. I'm guessing yours will be much stronger....and less money. Curious to see what you come up with. Good idea replacing the centres of the rims!

Why cut out the trike wheel centers? Just lay the 5 hole centers on the inside of the trike wheels, weld them in place, and drill out the 5 holes., then grind out the steel of the trike wheels just enough to make room for the lug nuts?
@fitzeesfabrication.thefl-nf7hp

Not enough meat on the rims to do that. Some of the holes line up in the gaps.
@BrucePierson
@BrucePierson 8 күн бұрын
It's unfortunate that you couldn't have knocked the studs out of the hub and re-drilled the hub for four studs, but I could see that was not possible because the center holes in the rims you want to use are not big enough to fit over the hub. It would have been a better way to go if it had been possible.

It's a really good idea to collect "junk" that might be useful to store for future projects. I do the same. Anytime I see something at the local Tip Shop that I think might be of use for making something, I grab it and store it. Then when it comes time to work on a particular project, I usually have all or most of the materials I need for it.

I'm in the middle of a frame/powertrain swap on my 54 Fleetline, I'm putting it on a 78 Buick Lesabre frame and powertrain. It has the 307 engine and 4 speed automatic trans in it, I'm not building a 8 second car or a torque monster, I'm building a daily driver hot rod that I can still have fun with on the weekends. I'm not spending a ton of money on it, in fact I'm hoping to speed less than $2000 on it and use as many parts I have laying around the shop to get it built. I choose the Lesabre for the frame and power train because it's almost spot on with the wheel base, The fleetline is 115" and the Lesabre is 115.4 inches, when you split it between the front and back it's less than a 1/4" off, I'll take that all day long.

Do I have a tip for you. Put the wheel on the car and put it in gear with the wheel in the air. Use the car as a lathe to polish the edge of the wheel. I done this and it works great.

My entire gig in mid Michigan is doing budget rust repairs on (mostly) trucks. Peoole who can't afford collision collision shop prices. So I take these salt damged vehicles, cut out the rust, weld in cab corners with the bed on(figured out how to do that ane have it come out ok) . Lot of wheel arch panels. Rockers, rockers, and more rockers. Tap down welds, fiberglass fill the seams. I pick up a lot from your videos even tho a lot of your work is more restoration and more precise than the daily driver budget junk I am doing. But i'm helping people out in these inflationary times, and they are happy to find someone willing to do the dirty work on the cheap(compared to collision shops) . I appreciate your craft and all he videos👍👍👍

Wow, what a beautiful area you have there! Down here on the weekend you can practically jump from one boat to the next( long Island sound). There are fish I guess but they tell you not to eat to many because of mercury. And you have a beautiful shoreline too, here it is lined with huge houses that are basically vacation homes. I have a longtime customer that owns one and they had some stuff delivered and the delivery people asked how time they spent there and my son told them he'll we spend more time here than they do. Hey thanks for the tour!😊
