very interesting project, hope to see the rest of it! I did a similar job modifying a set of wide rims to fit my race car many years ago, before such things as pesky rules entered the picture! I made new centres rather than taking them from an old rim, welded the new centres into a set of 265 x 14 rims. I think the scrutineers would have apoplexy if they saw them these days!

I had not heard the term "walking beam" so I had to look it up on Google. But I am familiar with this type of suspension setup to keep the wheels on the ground. It's pretty much the only way to do a dual axle trailer.

It's a really good idea to collect "junk" that might be useful to store for future projects. I do the same. Anytime I see something at the local Tip Shop that I think might be of use for making something, I grab it and store it. Then when it comes time to work on a particular project, I usually have all or most of the materials I need for it.

In 3+ years of watching your channels, this is the 1st time I've seen you use a plasma cutter. I would love to see an episode on using a plasma cutter. I've thought about buying one on many occasions. Have just never pulled the trigger.

I got a plasma cutter in my shop years ago and once you have one you will find 100 uses for it. Yes, it leaves a rough edge but nothing a grinder can't clean up.

I remember you made that bead breaker 8 months ago and at the time, I was thinking I would make one myself, but of course other things came up and I forgot about it. But it's a very useful device and I have to get around to making one of my own when I get time. I already have this type of jack and bits and pieces, so I should have everything I need to make it.

The Gorilla Cart at Princess Auto on sale did pretty well as a walking beam trailer. Bent the spindle rescuing two broken quads with our last good quad coming from DEEP in the BC wilderness no fault of the trailer though, we had no choice but to get out. Bought another and welded reinforcements to the spindle. I'm guessing yours will be much stronger....and less money. Curious to see what you come up with. Good idea replacing the centres of the rims!

You need another wheel for a spare tire in case you get a flat. Or are you taking a puncture repair kit with you or not anticipating getting a flat tire?

Spare tires get in the way. But is a good idea.
@BrucePierson
@BrucePierson 5 ай бұрын
@@fitzeesfabrication.thefl-nf7hp Otherwise, seeing that the tires are tubeless, you could take a tire plug kit with you to fix a flat on the go. That's of course assuming it was just a simple puncture. But if you rip the side out a tire, you'd definitely need a a spare.

It's unfortunate that you couldn't have knocked the studs out of the hub and re-drilled the hub for four studs, but I could see that was not possible because the center holes in the rims you want to use are not big enough to fit over the hub. It would have been a better way to go if it had been possible.
@fitzeesfabrication.thefl-nf7hp

The 4 lug center was smaller and when cut to fit hub there be not enough meat left by mounting holes
@norman3605
@norman3605 5 ай бұрын
Why cut out the trike wheel centers? Just lay the 5 hole centers on the inside of the trike wheels, weld them in place, and drill out the 5 holes., then grind out the steel of the trike wheels just enough to make room for the lug nuts?
@fitzeesfabrication.thefl-nf7hp

Not enough meat on the rims to do that. Some of the holes line up in the gaps.

Another great video "Fitzee on low budget build" . I love them. Do you think that was easier or better than re drilling the hubs to a 4 bolt pattern?
@fitzeesfabrication.thefl-nf7hp

The centers were too small in 4 bolt rim and when open up there was not much meat left to the mounting holes. Thought about that

I went back to see if I could tell and I originally thought that it was 2 and 2 but upon further investigation it looks like it might be 3 and 1. But like you it was hard to tell.
@BrucePierson

@@johngersna3263 I was thinking the same, that it might be 3 and 1, but pretty hard to tell from the way the tires were sitting.

tread direction might make a difference for traction, but for moving a load in the woods or around the yard at home should be fine either way.
