I'll have to tell my. mom about this place, pretty cool seeing Detroit style in my hometown!
@GrigoriRasputin20 сағат бұрын
By the way, my Mom's all time favorite spot is Folliero's in Highland Park. Not sure how it holds up. Mine is Casa Bianca in Eagle Rock (didn't check if you've done these)

I'm definitely getting the Detroit style next time I'm there! 😋

I haven't tried those yet. I'm not familiar with Folliernos, but Casa Bianca is a spot I've been meaning to try for a while now. 🍕🍕

Used to work on Haight Street location. Best pizza in the Bay. They’ll be bigger than Papa Johns in the next 10 years

Papa Johns is a whole different kind of pizza. I don't think it's fair to compare the two.

I’ve been meaning to try this place, thanks for the review. What surprises me the most is that if you look at the bottom they cook on screens, highly skilled pizzaiolas rarely do this. Doesn’t make it bad though.
@TheLandOfZAКүн бұрын
A pizza chef I know once told me that sometimes they use screens to prevent burning the crust.

As it is literally at the bottom of the stairs of the AMC16, I have already eaten here several times. I think the pizza is excellent but pricey. Given the fact that 1 slice is big enough to be my meal, I'm ok with the cost. I will give the Detroit style a try at some point. I realized you never give pricing info in your reviews-which I understand-but perhaps some sort of value statement could be mentioned. Keep up the great work! I have a list of places I want to visit thanks to your videos!

This place has been getting a lot of hype. I will try it next time I’m in town. That area desperately needed a place to get a slice.
@TheLandOfZA2 күн бұрын
Their very expensive, so be ready for that. Yeah, they have a prime location, right behind the Batman statue across from AMC. The only other pizza besides Sbarro in the mall is Amici Pizza, which took over the spot where North End Pizza used to be.

I just discovered your channel recently and have created a list of places to try. My favorites are Village in Larchmont, Mulberry St. in Encino, Dino's Pizza in Burbank and Vito's Pizza. I just tried The Slice House, which is at the bottom of the stairs of the AMC16 in Burbank. I'd be interested to hear your opinion of their pizza. I thought it was excellent.
@TheLandOfZAАй бұрын
I'm actually working on my review of Slice House right now. Stay tuned!! The only place on your list I haven't reviewed yet is Dino's, but I have been there many many times and will get to them eventually. Village, Mulberry St., and Vito's are all good spots, but like most NY style pizzerias in LA, suffer from being inconsistent on their quality. 🍕🍕
@kraigbaileyАй бұрын
I'm sorry, but you were far too forgiving. This pizza gets 2 stars-at best. It's mediocre and the tiny slices are absurdly overpriced. For what they charge, 1 slice should be a meal. BUT. In fairness, I have only tried the cheese. I would be willing to give the pepperoni a try as you said it is better.
@TheLandOfZAАй бұрын
You're not wrong. But they are also a part of Hollywood history, and one of the original stalls still operating out of the Farmers Market. I guess I felt they deserve some credit for that. 🍕🍕

Shins is great, I just went the other night and their pizza of the month was topped with birria and served with a lime wedge. It's a great blend of east coast neighborhood pizzeria, and west coast experimental cultural fusion. I'll definitely be going back. Check out Side Pie in Altadena!
@TheLandOfZAАй бұрын
All of their "pizzas of the month" look amazing. I hope to get a slice of that birria pizza before it's gone. Thanks for suggesting Side Pie. I'll definitely give them a try! 🍕🍕👍

I was born and raised in L.A. and had never heard of Cypress Park before. We used to call that area Highland Park. Just be careful eating in that neighborhood at night.
@TheLandOfZAАй бұрын
Actually, Highland Park is still there, but it's east of Cypress Park. Highland Park's main strip is York Blvd., and Shins is off Cypress Ave. But you're right, they are very close to each other and are very similar. There is a closed down "TOWN" pizza on Cypress Ave, but I believe the "TOWN" pizza off York in Highland Park is still open.

I will try some slices today since I live close by. But $27 for a thin crust 20" pizza seems awfully high. OK. I just tried this place for lunch. And everyone has their own taste in NYC style pizza. But in my opinion, the sauce was too salty and spicy. I detected a taste of garlic, too. The atmosphere was very nice with pinball machines, a child's play area and board games for adults.
@TheLandOfZA2 ай бұрын
Wow. $27 seems expensive because it is. I know of some comparable spots near me that charge closer to $20-22. Perhaps they need more competition over there. 🍕🍕

The pizza is okay, but the edge is horrible. Hard to chew, flavorless, way way too much of it for a NY slice, requires ranch. Joes in Sherman Oaks is spot on.
@TheLandOfZA2 ай бұрын
Hmmm.... sounds like they might have some inconsistency issues. Joe's Pizza is consistently solid throughout most of their locations. I probably refer people to them more than any other pizzeria in LA for that reason. 🍕🍕👍

I coincidentally had this place for the first time last weekend. I've never heard of this spot but wanted to give it a chance. I was at the Farmer's Market perusing and there was another pizza place there also. I settled on this one since it looked leagues better than the other one. I was pleasantly surprised and ended giving this spot a 7 on the dot out of 10.

I think your score is spot on. Pretty comparable to mine. I have tried the other pizzeria you mentioned as well. Patsy D'Amore's. The review is up on the channel. They are one of the original original Farmers Market vendors. Worth a try if you want to taste a slice of Hollywood history. 🍕🍕

Seems odd. You were fairly complementary to the pizza but only gave it a 3.5 generally anything below a 4 means no go.
@TheLandOfZA4 ай бұрын
What is the point of having 5 stars if anything below a 4 is a no go? There are too many decent NY pizza joints out here now, and that wouldn't leave enough stars to compare them by. In my grading system, 3.5 is a good score, solid NY style. But comparatively speaking not quite as good as some other pizzerias I've tried. And I usually don't give scores higher than 4.5 (I did once, but technically it was a 4.5) for the same reasons Portnoy doesn't give 10s. I have been tempted a couple times though....🍕🍕

I had this pizza spot randomly last August and I had mixed feelings. It didn't help that I literally just got back from NY a week earlier prior to trying this place. I had the jalapeno/pepp/hot honey slice along with the plain slice. The first slice was straight out the book of Scarr's in NYC. It was okay but I found that the dough was lacking flavor. I need give this place another shot because I saw many more options in your videos. They only had 2 options available when I went. You should try Speak Cheezy and Pizza Parlor, both in Long Beach, CA. 👌

Land Of Za, Great channel! I live in the LA area and love your reviews. Have you done Lucifer's yet? They are excellent, and worth checking out, IMO. Also, JMO, but one of the secrets of great pizza crust, to be honest, is GLUTEN. The best pizza (like Gorilla Pies or Lucifer's, IMO), use high-gluten flour to get that tough, stretchy consistency, in addition to the crispness. Hail gluten!
