This experiment with cheap handpans is interesting. I am very happy with my kurd d minor 9+1 handpan from Noblet. It was worth saving up for it for a long time.

Although it's not cheap, Iskra Handpan by Symphonic Steel is a good brand to consider. I bought one for my first handpan and love it.

Hi very nice video, I hope too that in future we have access to entry level handpans, but sometimes it's just a lottery and the price don't necessarily has to do with the quality of the product, there is not directly a proportion or a relation between price and quality especially in the lower price segment. For the higher price segment I could almost say the same with the small difference that the price doubled as well the expectations about the products...After a while I understood it's mostly a matter of material used to produce the handpans, I definitely recommend a high quality heat treated nitrated steel. It's a expensive hobby, I can't remember how many trial and error I've done, and how many returning to the shop at my own cost too...none of the lower price segment handpans stayed for longer than a year. Then in 2015 I buyed two Terré handpans (Terre Handpan Cosmic D-Moll & Terre Handpan Cosmic F Akebono) I think from Thomann, before I got my Spacedrum from MetalSounds in France (13 notes 432hz chromatic scale). Well the Terré handpans costed about 1750€ each in 2015 and both got rust shortly after the warranty expired, the rust was not visible on the outside, it was in the inside, I waxed and oiled them after every use and stored them in dry rooms and just wasn't aware that they rusted from the inside, well unfortunately until it was too late. The MetalSound Spacedrum was 1400€ in 2016 and is still in tune no rust and no issues. The only thing I would recommend nowadays is to not buy a 432hz tuned handpan if your intention is to play with other handpan players or other musicians because most of them have 440hz tuned handpans and instruments, and well you guess it,440 and 432 tunng, it just doesn't fit together, if you find players with the same tuning it fits wonderfully. I also have two tongue drums from Rammerdrum in Italy and I like them very much, they can be played by hand or with mallets, but I definitely prefer the Spacedrum because I'm used to play with my hands.

To start off, I like out of the ordinary sounds. This handpan sounded... Interesting. I am really curious how it actually sounds when playing it. It's out of tune, but in a disorienting way. Barely insulting but not enough to leave the room.

hello!!!!! i like yours videos and carry on!!! I hesitate between a sela handpan and an ayasa handpan. but the prise is clearly the double for the ayasa. what do you prefer to chose if you had the choice between them? quality, sound and durability? thank you :p <3
@LouiseBurrows
@LouiseBurrows 15 сағат бұрын
Ayasa all the way. Sela make lots of different instruments. I expect they are probably therefore mass produced in China. Whereas Ayasa is a specialist handpan maker with long experience. You also want to consider if you ever need it retuned. Makers in your locality are more likely to agree to retune a Ayasa pan than a Sela. I purchased my first handpan on a leap of faith with my intuition back in 2018 and I'm very glad I had the means and felt the pull to buy from a proper handpan maker. It's meant that my pan family has gradually grown, but from the desire to try different scales, rather than out growing a sub par instrument. It was a better investment to spend a bit more in the first place than need to buy twice out of frustration for the sound. Hope that helps, and we look forward to welcoming you to the handpan club, which is full of lovely people! 🎉

@@Exzeothat's a great choice for a first scale! Very popular so you are likely to be able to jam with others (my D Kurd is my jam pan) and friendly to learn! Hoping to get an Amara to add to my pan family soon as I think its a lovely scale! Have a great Christmas!

super crazy to see how temu basically completely scams people with these instruments. that's not worth 500 pounds. i know a few beginner makers that make some lovely instruments for around 900 - 1000 which is the cheapest i've seen ever for a nice and in tune instrument. i recently got an F2 pygmy 13 from octopus handpan, it is lovely. it wasn't very cheap but it's more than worth it to have a nice instrument that is gonna stay in tune and stable for a long time. wish you a lovely holliday season amy and much lovee 🙏🙏

Ah yeah I've played a couple of Octopus pans they're nice! A good entry-ish price too. But it's true, anything up to around 800 or so, it could be ANY quality pan you're getting. There's no way of knowing. At least it's a big improvement from not so long ago when you could spend thousands on a trash can 🤦

I got a Temu Handpan 1 year ago, 180 American dollars, perfect 432hz but the ding or deep D note on the top is a little out of tune now, it was as advertised in the ad but it’s not very loud or good quality, took all the siding off exposing sharp edges but it rings out louder and more high end now, I was perfect to see if I was even gonna be able to play it cus I’m not a percussionist, and I can’t really play it well after a year so I will probably never buy a real quality one

I'm luckily more into tonguedrums, but the Ravs are crazy expensive as well, even 2nd hand. For tonguedrums I recommend the Tonedrum and Pulsar Mini made by Maxim Yudin. Atm for 400 € plus shipping you get 11 perfectly tuned notes with the Tonedrum (but all scales with a C in the center) and my 15 tongue custom-scale Pulsar Mini was 840 €.

Are you collecting boxes? But about the handpan. Just buy an Elaia handpan. You know you get an excellent handpan and it's for life. Maybe you have to tune it after many years. But any handpantuner would love to do it. You wont regret spending some extra money on a Elaia handpan. atleast, that's my opinion. Have a great week.

I think i get it. Cheap one sounds slightly untuned, flat. Expensive one sound almost reverberates, especially high pitch tones. Was looking to buy cheap one my self. Now, glad found this video instead. Cheap hand pan manufacturers do not post comparison videos, probably bc it would tank their sales. Thank you.

I got a cheap Chinese version of a double sided handpan online. When it came it wasnt tuned correctly at all. It was way off. It was so bad. I couldnt play it or enjoy it at all. If u live in Southern California. In the L.A. area. I really recommend Local Steel Drum maker Dave Berry @Daves island Instruments (D.I.I.) In Lakewood, CA. He's been around for a long time making steel drums his whole life. Meeting Dave was the best thing ever. At D.I.I. u'll find handpans of different creations from Dave himself n ukuleles. Dave is the man and can tune ur drums if they aren't tuned correctly like mine was. He didn't charge that much. And was super excited to try and tune something he didn't create. He said it was a challenge because it's so cheap and tin that u cant hammer it to much or it's damaged. He said with these u only get a few shoots with the hammer but u have to get it rite. He said he could do it. And also asked me for permission to film the process for his KZbin channel online. I agreed. Showcasing how he tunes a cheaper chinese made budget handpan. For people to see him in action. It can be done. After Dave finished my cheap handpan is now an amazing instrument. Harmonics are perfect . It sounds so beautiful. After that I ended up buying a custom double sided hand pan from Dave. It's was super pricey but he put 3big deep notes on the bottom. So I can play this one side ways. Or regular. I like his work. His handpans are so good quality. N he's not afraid to try new ideas. If u can pay for it. He can make it. But Dave literally is the man for fixing my budget handpan. I actually like the sound from my budget handpan alil better than Dave's . Even though his drums are professional handpans. I got that one in 440hz and the Chinese one is 432hz. So that's why I like the budget handpands sound better. 440 hz so I can jam with regular instruments. Like piano or keyboard. But to me it sounds to high pitch. That's why I requested putting the deepest notes he can make on the bottom. He put some deep deep notes I love it. So I like the 432 better. It sounds so unique now that the budget handpan is correctly tuned. But the bottom side to this one is all high pitch notes. I wish they were all low pitch tones. Cause the gu is low tone. So its weird high tones with a super low tone. So I think the budget handpands are dope as fuck if u have enough money to get it tuned. Preferably from Dave's Island Instrument! Dave's really good at everything steel drums. U'll be amazed. Once it's tuned perfect!

I stumbled across this one totally at random, and I'm kind of blown away that handpans no longer cost $30,000,000 or whatever. Procuring one used to be a whole thing. I put the instrument into the unobtanium category, and pretty well forgot about it for the next 18 years. It looks like I need to do some catching up! Too bad I didn't discover this while I had a budget. I am, of course, completely broke at the moment.
