Started my career just like you said: with what I had. '07 Hyundai Elantra. That car went places and did things it was never designed to do! Withstood a good 4 years of abuse. Then a short-term Lexus ES300 (free from a family member). Bought a '10 Outback with 200K miles on it and drove it for another 5 years. Awesome car, no problems (besides the designed-in ones from Subaru). Recently got a CPO '20 Subaru Ascent. Same fuel economy as the Outback, but a good deal roomier. Thanks for the advice on the RV! May be in the market for one in the next few years (CAT work).

This is helpful if your main concern is a cost benefit analysis. I wouldn't trade my magnetic ride control and massaging seats with air conditioning on your backside for all the money I made this hail season. Quality of life on a decade of 10-20 hour road trips, and 4-5 hours a day sitting in the seat driving or writing becomes incredibly valuable in a way that you can't put a price tag on.

My first year I got a honda element for $3500 off marketplace took the rear seats out was a mini cargo van with 4wd looked goofy with a 32ft ladder but it got me through and I sold it to another adjuster for the same amount I bought it for and he ran claims with it the next year. Would not recommend buying a diesel truck for claims there so expensive to fix I sold mine after two years and got a f150 and it works great it was also used. Do not finance a 100k truck it doesn't make financial sense and your paying to go to work.

The secret trick to make $100k+ is to get all the licenses?
@AdjusterTV
@AdjusterTV 4 күн бұрын
Yes. If you don't have a state's license you can't work there. It provides the most opportunity for work. It seems to be secret to me because I still see people saying on social media, "I don't need a bunch of licenses, I'll just get them when they send me to that state." Problem is that they already sent the adjusters who already have that license.

I use the travel trailer, I’m living full-time it at moment 🎉 my lot rent is 800-1200 a month , multi RV parks, have Internet, pool, In laundry on site. Most are located by a body of water. I think it’s much more relaxing and stress-free compared to a hotel by far. My travel trailers is about 250 a month. I was spending anywhere from $3000-$4000 a month on hotels. There’s some good tax benefits to an RV as well. I’m actually traveling a lot less and working daily claims in the same area for the last five years. So buying a house is definitely my mind.🎉 My biggest problem is I’m thinking about getting a homebase a.k.a. buy a house. Just cause it would be nice to have more space. I would not recommend hauling around a fifth wheel unless you were planning on staying long-term somewhere.

Been doing this for a year and a half now, bought an RV 3 months in. Half of the places I go, I save a lot of money over hotels. The other half, I probably about break even when I factor in how much gas I burned simply traveling to the deployed location. The pros: Keep all your stuff in the RV, just hook up and move. Own your living quarters, instead of just renting it. Ability to meal prep easily compared to a hotel and save even more money. No moving in and out of hotel rooms. Just pull up in your RV spot, it feels like home away from home. No listening to people checking in and out of their hotel rooms, kids running around on the floor above you, and transiting through the lobby, up the elevator or stairs, etc. Cons: You’re married to the RV payment if you finance. working or not, it’s a monthly expense Things will break, brand new or used, they’re all junk on wheels. Finding a camp site long term can be tough in the summer months when people are camping recreationally and you’re there to work. Even more irritating is having to play musical RV spots when you have claims to run that day. Check out is usually around noon, and check in isn’t until 2-3p. Some parks don’t just let you move onto a spot early just because you have to work during the day. I think the cons of owning and RV outweight the pros, I’d only reccomend it if you are a full time RV’er. If you own a house at home, it just seems like a second mortgage to me when I’m not working. I don’t think the savings during the storm season really outweigh the full year cost of ownership, along with the hassle of hooking up/moving/setting up at a new camp site if you have to move often. Lengthy but just my .02 for anyone thinking about it

Sharing that information is important 👍🏻. A lot of individuals don’t know what variables are involved with owning (or attempting to work out of). I did Rv repair and eventually managed an Rv repair facility. Absolutely flabbergasted at the way the dealerships take advantage of customers and insurance companies on service and anything to make the sale approach. I want to get into being an asset for claims specifically Rv/trailer (I also have icar/auto body p& paint experience . Extensive CDL A car haulers and dump truck operating and fleet maintenance experience). What would you recommend ?

You should do an episode on how when and when not on cat to ask for day rate over fee schedule. Meaning you are doing 3 claims a day but if all the claims are tiny when to negotiate day rate to not go broke.

Just cause the mat isn't damaged .... the shingle does deteriorate quicker.... period ..... unless a policy states "broken matt" everything is ambiguous
@AdjusterTV
@AdjusterTV 18 күн бұрын
Not ambiguous. There's no argument as to what the industry calls damage. And the industry includes material manufacturers, restoration construction associations, insurance companies, and forensic investigation/engineering firms. We gotta draw the line somewhere and the materials and forensics engineering folks are who the industry has relied on for decades. If we just went by what you say, then we'd have to replace a roof after a bird landed on it and knocked one granule loose. I've had this argument with roofers for a quarter century so call us liars all you want, it just is what it is. If you can't get into a neighborhood with actual damage in it then maybe try harder and show up on a cat site first.

What is the opinion about a self contained van, such as a sprinter style type van class b syle to offset hotel costs?
@AdjusterTV
@AdjusterTV 19 күн бұрын
So the main consideration with a small RV that you just sleep in and then drive to your claims is that you have to have a place to park it every night - there are sometimes rules and often danger in just parking on a city street or Walmart. The second thing is that you still need to drop waste and fill your water tanks as well as have enough power and LPG to run your refrigerator and your laptop/printer so you need a way to do all of those things without breaking the law (eg., dumping your grey/black water any place other than an RV dump station of some kind). The third thing is that if you are parking it in a nearby RV campground you'll need to unhook and stow all of your power, water, and waste lines and put away anything that you normally use like dishes every time you leave in the morning... and then hook all that stuff up again at night so you can have some creature comforts. Kind of a pain. The fourth thing is that many carriers (especially the majors like State Farm) explicitly don't want you rolling up to an insured's house in an RV. And if you're just overnighting it in a Walmart parking lot or a neighborhood side street, some insured is going to recognize your vehicle and might call in. If you have a Sprinter just get a 2" hitch receiver for it and pull a Jeep behind it with a ladder rack on it. Park the Sprinter at a decent campground and run the Jeep. There are cons to that setup as well but if it were me and I already had a Sprinter, that's what I would do. If I didn't have an RV and I really wanted one, I would go for a 1 ton pickup and a 5th wheel. If I had never owned an RV before and never run claims before and hadn't gotten to experience it myself yet, I would 1000% just drive the car I have and stay in a hotel. MUCH easier and MUCH cheaper for a newbie.
