Interesting discussion. Given the NET is quite willing to be experimental in readings, I'm surprised they didn't search for a distinct translation here.

Onlyism is a form of insanity. Still, the meaning is static and sound exegesis has been handed down through the generations. It's okay to have a translation that's close enough, as long as you also have a teacher who can get you the rest of the way across the finish line.

Compared to what Greek text? I think the choice is far more important than which of the translations into English, but there are so many with many weaknesses.

The AV DOES render it in the present tense: "all HAVE sinned and (all) come short..." It is a mistake, IMHO, to bring the 'HAVE' forward to apply it to the next verb.

I have been going through the new Legacy Standard Bible which is a direct child of the NASB. I listen to Steven Stevens's recital and note the differences. I like the fact that they use the Divine Name because it should be used and I feel it is almost tragic not to use it because of the emphasis He Himself placed on that name. However, there are many places that I feel they made the reading more convoluted or downright confusing. Or, they made unnecessary changes, just for the sake of making a change. I have been keeping a record of these. In any case, I am wondering what your opinion (if any) of this new translation is

Giving such authority to men (plural) to me puts the focus to Jesus as a representative of humanity, or at least a comment foreshadowing the authority given to Jesus and passed to his Apostles. Dr Plumber's trinitarian reflection here would have seemed less awkward to me had the text said 'given to a man' (singular).

To understand why "get up" would be medium, it might help to compare with e.g. Spanish "levantarse" What's reflexive in many modern languages was very often medium in Greek.

It's NOT only college kids! I AM ordering the flash cards today, so I hope I can offer this as a suggerstion, not a criticism. Please consider using larger fonts on the first side. I am vision impaired, (not blind all the way but getting worse, it cannot be cured or stopped), and it is difficult and depressing to deal with small print. I have many flashcards for more than one language, so I can testify that some cards come with too small of print and some with nice large print. It is as though someone was afraid to run out of ink. Or perhaps they think the only people learning Greek are young college kids with good eyes. But we older folks have finally arrived at the time of our lives when we retire and have the kind of time to put into studying the Word of God that we always wanted to have. So please, please, on your next edition, please condider using bigger letters on the first side of the card. Thank you. Just a suggestion, not a criticism. Very grateful and praying for you.
