Thanks for your thoughts Alex! Personally, I don’t think the Squid Games event is enough to save CoD or even put it in the right direction. It saddens me to see so many games become more like Fortnite with crossovers and buyable skins. That only works for Fortnite bc of how it approaches its world building - anything can happen in Fortnite! Yet for a world like CoD - where the events are heavily set/inspired by real world wars and conflicts - it cheapens the experience and even the sacrifices of the characters. MWII (2022) was the last CoD I cared about. It wasn’t perfect but there was enough of its aesthetic that the game felt more tied to its story than just being a franchise (still play it to this day funny enough. 😂) I believe CoD should put more effort into owning its military/realism aesthetic and standing on its own identity than just making a quick grab of cash with crossover skins. It is a dying franchise, so I think it’s time to let it pass and just cherish the fun memories we’ve made through it. :)

OG Modern Warfare to MW3 was perfection. Back when they could create a game with an engaging storyline and the multiplayer was just a nice extra to have fun with. Since it’s become the multiplayer focused, bloated mass that requires you to delete basically everything on your console to play it, i’ve lost interest. I feel since the release of Warzone, it’s been trying to imitate the success of Fortnite and this feels like another step in that direction. Fortnite is kinda fun though (despite having been forced to play a lot of it) and is basically free to play. Fundamentally, COD just isn’t fun anymore.

Anything after MW4 isn't even worth looking twice at - the SG crossover doesn't look bad but it's probably clutching at straws if they want to bring back OG COD players and like you said it's just fan service at this point for the younger Fortnite generation. What's next? A Mr Beast COD crossover 🙄 It just needs to accept defeat.
