What's the difference between what a vocal producer does and what a music producer who sings, writes and arranges songs does? And how come vocal producers seemingly have low visibility? I never heard of vocal a producer before today.

Big fan of jon and this series, im learning a lot. Right off the bat im listening here in a quite well treated room with focal shapes + sub. For me the kick is distorting a bit too much, i would have probably even looked into replacing the sample. i like therefore the earlier mix of it a bit better, since the kick was not as clipped. It felt more open and fitting for the production. edit.: i also listend to it know on spotify to confirm that it is not just the youtube compression. Still the kick is giving unpleasent clipping.

At the beginning of the mix, when he was mixing the kick, I noticed he stated that the kick was "too loud" or "too dynamic" as he looked at the AB Mectric plugin. I'd like to know what LUFS measurement he was looking at and what range he would reach with each instrument in a mix.

does anyone know how he did his pro q turns blue when he use spectrum grab mode? and how he made multiple node with just one spectrum grab mode? i tried but mine is purple and when i made one node, the grab mode instantly turns to normal eq mode
@dek10157Ай бұрын
yea bro you have to click and hold the body of the frequency spectrum, takes about 2 seconds

Very good video. What I can't understand is the mentality behind applying a compressor to each instrument in almost all instruments and not compressing by buses.

What range should the kick be on the Average/ integrated level . I believe he was looking @ that we he said we are still loud?
@ermharriableАй бұрын
I think it depends on how much he knows he can get in gain reduction after going thru his drum and mix bus. He probably has a target around 14-16 LUFFs he likes the kick to sit at before he runs it through his stages of bus processing

@JFTR what did @teezio meant when he said we are bit dynamic after checking the A/B ADPTR plugin ? Anyone
@MrDprince8042 ай бұрын
When he is working on the kick then he looks at the AB Metric plugin to tell him how dynamic he is…Now i understand when he say he is to loud… but how did he read that to tell him how dynamic the kick was….. lost

14:27 Great advice! It's unfortunate that many people aren't taught early on to use references to understand how things should sound. That way, when certain elements are already present in the mix, they don’t have to be added again. This gap in mixing fundamentals is challenging to teach, especially because you might receive a record from a famous producer or engineer where certain things are already done. But for a home producer or engineer, they might get something that's barely there, and the techniques you mentioned may not be enough.

To me the mixing is nIce. It I feel like he added too much to the drums, the vocals is harsh so it doesn’t need so much hitting, but great video

A breath of fresh air listening to you guys speak. I really enjoyed listening and I would like to thank you all for sharing. The section on confidence and the "Imposter syndrome" was great to witness. Although I am proficient at what I do, I find myself asking the same question. I think that feeling helps us develop our skills to its max potential if there is such a thing. The sky is the limit!
