I really like the depth of the bottom 6 for the Pens. They seem to have a solid mix across their potential 3rd and 4th lines which is very encouraging. What this season comes down to IMO is if the power play can come back from its way too long hiatus, solid contributions from Rackell, whomever is on Sid's other wing, a solid PK unit, and timely goal tending. Of course I'm not including injuries in this equation because it's the Penguins and they're like a broken mirror plus a black cat= walking under 3 ladders when it comes to injuries.

Side note: Murashov is assigned to WBS, most likely to sit behind Blomqvist. I expected him to start in Wheeling, but this is a good surprise.

Great way for Geno to enter the season high on confidence and build on it quickly as he likely gets 499 & 500 in the first handful of games.

Skenes did in fact win ROY. 🎉 I agree about Glass man. He is fast! He gets on pucks quick and that’s someone we need in the lineup. Top two lines looked fantastic, and really happy with how the power play looked too. We were moving our feet, moving the puck around quick, taking good quality shots and not forcing any. Loved the game.

Pens were a little rusty at first once the legs got going it was their game, THE BIGGEST CHANGE WAS PUCKS AT THE NET and they got some bounces. Watch Pusti get a hat trick in his next game, I will laugh so hard. Agreed Hunter OP and HB played a solid game if they continue to improve Pens D looking really solid for the next 5 or so years

The flower. Best goaltender in penguins history. Havent had a stable netminder since they lost him in the expansion draft. He deserves the hall of fame. What a personality he has and will always be loved and admired by penguins fans. Ready for oct 9th to get here and get the regular season started. Whether they're good or bad this season, im ready for the ride

Sam Poulin can't play NHL hockey and was drafted 21st overall. The Pens should have drafted Connor McMichael who is on the Caps roster. Connor McMichael last season played 80 games and had 18 goals and 33 points. Connor McMichael was drafted 25th overall. Sam Poulin = Bye Felicia.

Puljujarvi, Puustinen, Glass, Acciari, etc. Eller, Lizotte, or Hayes. McGroarty and Beauvillier. The Pens have way to many similar players competing for the same spots. This is going to be interesting how this plays out for the roster.

I really want to see what Erik Karlsson does on the PP this year with David Quinn running it. We saw how successful Karlsson was in San Jose two years ago when Quinn was his head coach. While I don't expect a 100 point season, I do expect a really big year from EK, given the familiarity of having Quinn as his head coach and also given the fact that David Quinn does have a good track record of working with elite defenseman and developing younger ones. Remember, he also really helped Adam Fox's development with the New York Rangers.

Puljujarvi and glass are the only 2 bubble roster players who deserve a chance. I like mcgroarty but he doesnt look quite ready for nhl yet. You guys are right. Hayes, beauvillier and lizotte are going to play on nhl roster. I dont see a prospect quite ready yet. Bottom 6 should be much improved on paper. Hopefully it translates to the ice this season

We haven’t had a young guy worth NHL ice time in 7+ years lol If the young guys don’t earn a spot… They don’t. Deserve. A spot… this narrative is insane. The young guys that are worth a shit, are all getting a shot at NHL ice this pre-season. In 15-16 and 16-17 when Rust and Guentzel came up, they both played a slew of games in the AHL before making the roster in their respective seasons.. Yall need to chill with this “Sullivan doesn’t play young guys” stuff😂 Just because they’re young, doesn’t mean they deserve NHL ice.

Puustinen will most likely be the 13th forward. Hayes-eller-glass line does sound like it has some potential. Mcgroarty hasnt stuck out to me in the preseason. Im high on him but the kid has never played in a nhl regular season game and its a steep climb from ncaa hockey. He'll get his opportunity this season on a call up most likely

Thinking more about McG. When Jake and Rusty got called up to the big team, a few years after leaving college, they weren’t buried on the 3rd or 4th lines to get experience. They got top 9, and mostly top 6 minutes/opportunities. If he plays in the bottom 6 out of camp, that’s going to limit this player’s long-term growth. We should send him down, give him line 1 (or top 6) minutes, and task him with growing into a top 6 winger in the NHL. Just like Jake and Rusty.
@cjcolaizzi1213

I think Poulin needs a fresh start somewhere else. He's had a rough injury history and sometimes that causes you to press and squeeze the stick a little too much. Maybe they include him in a bottom six winger trade and get a little more back with prospects or draft capital.

Yeah I think McGroarty starts the season in Wilkes, and there's nothing wrong with that. He's been fine but I think top line minutes at the AHL level will benefit him. And I feel bad saying this because I was rooting for him, but I think Sam Poulin is done. He's not standing out at all and he took two bad penalties. This camp was probably his last chance and honestly he's blowing it. I'm kind of hoping he gets a fresh start elsewhere and succeeds, because I was rooting for him.
@fluxcc

Another thing to consider with McGroarty potentially starting in WBS is, look at the opening day roster last season - Zohorna made it, how long did that last, 4 games? McGroarty might not need to wait long, if he doesn't make the NHL roster for opening night to get a call-up, if people come out of the gates poorly. Not to mention that spending games down in WBS to get acclimated, dominate and get confidence up, then coming up to the top-6 immediately worked wonders for Jake Guentzel, might do the same for Rutger.

I 100 percent agree with you guys. They waived the three year waiting period Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, they need to waive it for Jaromir Jagr as he is second behind Gretzky in all time points in NHL history and for all he has done for the game of hockey, he absolutely shouldn't have to wait three years.

The Penguins have a history of Defenseman struggling in their first year especially with Sullivan as head coach. I'm not saying that he's going to bounce back like Mathison did but if he can build his game back up to a decent level it would help bring his overall value back up to where if you wanted to move him with a draft pick or mid level prospect for another player or more draft capital.

Mc groarty is waivers exempt. He needs to sharpen his sword for a few months and then see who of the nhl men fall off or injuries occur. Then work him in. I still think people are forgetting how good doc played at the end of the season. Bunting and doc were some of the grit and and offense we complain we don't have. I sounded like bunting was left off the power play.

I actually like the 2-minute penalty for flipping the puck over the glass. If you go back to the 80s and 90s, the puck was constantly going out of play because players would just shoot the puck "high and hard" off the glass to get the puck out of their zone, and if they happened to miss the glass ... oh well. Also, this requires players in the defense zone to actually have to utilize some skill to get the puck out of their end of the ice, since there is a risk involved with just shooting it "high and hard" off the glass.
