Thank you for sharing. When I tried this, when I backed out the screw, it unscrewed the insert. Not sure if I did something wrong?
@popalock852 жыл бұрын
Given the threaded insert is made of a (somewhat) softer metal, sometimes (especially when dealing with hard woods) the screw and the insert can friction lock together. After you back out the screw and notice the insert is still attached to the screw. Grab a wrench to loosen the insert. Remove the insert completely from the screw. You can place a small small washer between the insert and the screw head to help avoid running into that issue moving forward. Just be mindful of the diameter of the washer when sinking the insert into the wood.
@hikariscissors2 жыл бұрын
@@popalock85 Thank you so much for the detailed answer! Yes, I think when I tightened it down, the screw locked to the insert as you mentioned. It took quite a bit of pressure to unscrew it from the insert while holding the insert with a wrench. I will try using a washer. Thank you again for the helpful information and video. Keep up the good work!

The slotted end is designed to help thread the insert. It is not designed for a screwdriver. The slotted end goes in first.

I just stumbled across your video the other day and that's really impressive. 8 18s must be slamming LOL. Just a few questions, are you using external amps to power those or plate amps on the back of the box? Is that one giant box or is it individual enclosures that are custom built? Are they ported or sealed? And with all that bass does it drown out the vocals and your other speakers? In the video it's a little hard to hear the dialogue. Yeah I recently discovered stereo integrity and I really like their stuff and I'll probably be getting my subs from them someday. Hopefully I can have a system like this one day
@popalock854 жыл бұрын
Hi Blair. All 8 were powered by 1 FP 14000 Clone amp. I made 2 boxes, each have a center partition giving 2 subs about 8ft^3 of airspace, 4ft^3 per sub. The bass, in no way shape or form, drowns out the mains / vocals. That is one of the primary benefits of having a powerful external DSP, such as the miniDSP. It allows you to tune your system pretty much exactly (within the limitations of your acoustical environment) how you want it. In fact, I would say that DSP is the most important tool to have once you start getting into large bass systems, otherwise your bass will inevidibly sound like a bolated mess and overpower everything. I purchased these Stereo Integrity subs for $145 per sub and the amp for about $900 shipped to my door. $400 for the miniDSP and about $350 for wood and other misc finishing items and I had this monster system for right around $3K which is NOT bad compared to other commercial offerings. That said, if you want to save the hastle of building everything yourself and taking up a HUGE amount of space, I'd recommend looking into the JTR 4000ULF. It has very similar output on the lower-end of the frequency range (the fun stuff) for about $3,600 or so. Plus it comes with a warranty and actually has resale value if you wanted to sell it...Which you wouldn't...lol. 1 of the 4000ULF's would blow your mind. 2 would blow any remaining parts of your mind...

why 16 ? wouldnt 8 be more than enough ?
@popalock854 жыл бұрын
"Enough" is a very subjective term. Everyone will have different interpretations of enough. One (1) of these 18's is enough above 40Hz for everyday listening... The lower in the FR spectrum you go, the more displacement is required to achieve the same SPL. In addition, there have been tests over the decades that have proven we have a lower sensitivity to lower frequencies (think fletcher-munson curve) with many arguing the human threshold of hearing is 20Hz. All that being said, 120db at 16Hz is incredibly satisfying where as 120db at 40Hz would be a bloated overpowering mess... Bottom-line is that if you have a system with headroom to spare, you can dial in your perfect house curve. If you came to my house for a demo you would leave a believer. I can play a movie at a very reasonable -20dbfs, but have the lowend boosted like CRAZY and it simply adds to the tactile feedback of the presentation. In my opinion when the Hulk is stomping around and you feel the floor shaking under you, it pulls you into the movie just a little bit more.

how was it ?? did you feel anything when that 6hz came up ?
@popalock854 жыл бұрын
Honestly, nothing substantial. It's hard to measure, but I am confident I was getting 6Hz between 115-120db at my listening position (with subs firing directly in my back). Assuming you don't have any distractions (with company over or anything) you can feel a slight tactile sensation, but 6Hz is SO unbelievably low that it more adds this dimension of depth to the sound than really add a crazy impact. It's hard to explain to people who haven't had the chance to experience it themselves.
@infrasonicrebasses47634 жыл бұрын
@@popalock85 oh i understand..i know lower bass gets softer and sooo much nicer for your ears...i assume you have your system on a concrete floor on ground level yes ? and that slight tactile feel..do you...feel the floor shake slightly at that 6hz ? because i plan on getting some mariana24sc in a room upstairs..a very small room so i can get the cabin gain advantage for the sub sonics and get some DSP to flatten out the frequencies like drop the 40hz and up frequencies down a bit to match up to the sub sonic bass perhaps down to 10hz ...and the best part of my room upstairs is that even if your sub can't do sub sonic bass..the cone movement causes the enclosure to vibrate then that vibrate shakes the floor and in upstairs the floor shakes much easier so i get VERY easy tactile feel and its AWESOME!!! i just wonder how crazy my floor would shake if i have a subwoofer MADE to go to the sub sonic region of bass ohohoohhhhh ...i kinda wanna get like....9 mariana24SC and stack them up 3 horizontal and each of those rows have 2 marianas on top ..i dunno if its that safe and i am not looking to build boxes for the subs ..i prefer just getting the mariana24sc as that way will be easier and more space efficient . my room is well WAS a bedroom but i changed it to my cave lol its a little (lengthxwidthxheight) 12x12x7.5 room.. i assume for sub sonic bass i have a great advantage because once i tried a car sub 12 inch in a flat response 23hz tuned box and with VERY low power like..less than 80 watts because i didn't have a good power supply ..and even tho the sub was completely unloading at 13hz the door in my room was rocking back and forth gentle and you can hear the door knocking....and the floor shook like an earthquake about to happen but didn't escalated it was AMAZING ..my monitor screen started jumping up an down but in no major hamful way it was just noticeable because me in my chair felt moving up and down it was crazy awesome...and 20hz was quite audible even with such low power ...and that was a car sub..thats made to play in cars not big rooms...so i have high hopes for a true subwoofer capable of sub sonic bass in my small room to take HUGE advantage of my room's cabin gain ...i have 3 elements as well ..the sound you are hearing..you feel the sound ANNND the vibration from the subwoofer shakes the floor so you feel that as well..its wicked awesome!!!
