I love this video. I'm getting a FD and i swear it's so hard to find a video for preventive maintenance and everyday tips for these cars. Also I'm gonna live by the rule: A redline a day keeps the carbon away😂. I hope everyone in these comments will have a great time with their rotary cars.

Very interesting how much different info there is in here compared to what I've heard before. For premix I've heard people that running 200 ml per tank of oil is way too much and it can clog your car up, and here is another source recommending 400ml. For spark plugs I've heard recommended to change them as low as 7-8k km. Also there are Denso spark plugs made for rotary, (mainly for racing as they run colder) not only ngk. The point about full synthetic being ok is a new one for me, looks like I have some reading to do. I've seen people with 200k km Rx-8's on the original motor, no rebuild, they have the car since brand new only use 5w-30 oil and add no premix and they swear that is what's killing engines. I'm getting really tired of rotary cars not having an answer for anything, everybody keeps recommending something different and it seems everyone has a different experience with them, not even two rotary specialists can agree 100% on how the engines need to be cared for. Unfortunately nobody has a few hundred thousand bucks to run a 100 engines in different circumstances on engine dynos. I don't have any answers, just stating my disappointment regarding the situation.

A lot of us in NZ use Denso IRL01-27 plugs for 13b with really good results, they appear to be in better shape than NGK after track time

Is this true or not. I heard you need to rev a rotary engine higher than 2000 rpm’s cause babying it will blow the engine.
@thatRotaryCarGuy16 күн бұрын
YES! It needs to be revved higher than 2k rpm. It helps remove the carbon deposits through higher u rev the engine. Don't be afraid to redline it once a day :)

Hey, can you please tell me why my turbo is getting cherry red on my RX seven turbo two 1988
@thatRotaryCarGuyАй бұрын
Hey whats up man, this is most likely due to a bad air/fuel ratio. Ur most likely running lean, meaning u have more air than fuel which causes excessive heat in the exhaust going through ur turbo.

I might have missed it, but what tire size/rim size do you have and which coilovers do you have? Pro? Competition? What spring rates did you get?
@thatRotaryCarGuy2 ай бұрын
Hey man, so when I'm riding around, I'm using my MB Battles which are 17x9.5 (-12 offset) all around and I use 16x8s in the rear for my Drift spares. I have the competition coilivers and with the stiffer spring rates that comes with them. If ur going for track/roadracing, I suggest getting ghe Pro coilovers.

Should you premix even with a catalytic converter?
@thatRotaryCarGuy2 ай бұрын
Yes and no on using premix with cat converter. There's a mix review about this, some say u can and some say no. But just on the safe side, I would say no if ur running a catalytic but u can try it out. At this day in age, I wouldn't recommend running catalytic with rotaries because it messes with the flow of the exhaust. I would suggest getting rid of it and use resonator.
@yungbeong766426 күн бұрын
i have a cat on my rx8 and i premix, but only 100-200ml per 50L tank refill. Makes the engine run so much smoother and no issues with the cat. Careful when using more than 200ml per tank because the second lambda will start throwing codes.

You mentioned having issues during install. What issues during install? I saw a clip of you grinding something, did you have to grind something in order for them to fit? 0:13 It’s been a year since your video post. Any updated feedback?
@thatRotaryCarGuy3 ай бұрын
Hey whats up man! Yes, for some reason, there was a small notch on both my knuckles and it won't let me slide the knuckles all the way in the coilover mount for it. I called Parts Shop Max and they said it should fit exactly how it should. They were mind boggled about the issue I was having. But I told them it was no big deal since I just had to grind them off a bit. I need to actually make an updated feedback video on these coilovers so people would know how they feel like. Thank u for pointing that out 😎🙏🙏

All very good info here.. IDEMITSU all day for me, engine oil and premix. I am glad you talked about oil coverage with the OMP, plenty of rotary guys are still blind to this that the coverage isn't as good as using premix with the fuel. I run both OMP and premix on both my rotaries. Half oz per gal stock-ish RX-8, closer to 1 oz per gal FD because its 400 hp. Be careful with radiator upgrades on RX-8's, the mishimoto (most common radiator choice) sucks for the RX-8. I use a koyo on my FD. Also... straight pipe... your engine will thank you... these cars run so hot that heat soaks into the downpipe / header. The trapped heat ruins rear area rotor. I kno its naughty to the environment but this is one of the few cars you really really should if you want the motor to stay healthier for longer.
@thatRotaryCarGuy3 ай бұрын
Thank u so much for that amazing input man! And yes, remixing is definitely important! I still run my OMP and premix at the same time. Never heard of the mishimoto issue before but I'll definitely take ur advice! Also Koyo to me is the best brand for radiator, no other like it! Great info on the catalytic part! I had totally forgot to include that and I appreciate that u mentioned it on ur comment 🙂 I totally agree there with ya! Less restrictions of the exhaust flow the better!
