Great story from Ronnie .My father’s friend Gerry McCormick found Ronnie passed out on the side of the road in Dublin one Saturday morning when he was young .He stopped in his car and they went for breakfast together.

These songs are a window into history and as such I am so glad Martin has learned and sung these songs the history in France.

Hear this almost every dag, with our five year old singing along and playing it on the keyboard. He’s a big fan of Barney and was really disappointed to hear he’s no longer alive. Instead he exchanged a few emails with John.

Often mistaken as a traditional Irish song, it was actually written by John Conolly from Cleethorpes in England, here is John's tribute to Barney... kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5mwm42qgsl-mJYsi=V-FulT6TClpbLBjS

Absolutely beautiful rendition by the man himself. I am 24 years of age and I would choose listening to Luke Kelly any day over the music of this decade.

Those subs man. That's OLD New Norwegian. Byrgskap. that really dates it. The translator can't quite seem to figure out if he wants to translate it to something you can sing or just explain the song. It's kinda funny.

===== Lyrics ===== When Bonaparte he commanded his troops for to stand, And he planted his cannons all over the land; He planted his cannons the whole victory to gain, And they my young horseman returning from Spain. Chorus Broken-hearted I wander, for the loss of my lover, He's my bonny light horseman, in the wars he was slain. If you saw my love on sentry on a cold winter's day, With his red rosy cheeks and his flowing brown hair, All mounted on horseback the whole victory to gain, And it's on the battlefield great honour to gain. Chorus Broken-hearted I wander, for the loss of my lover, He's my bonny light horseman, in the wars he was slain. And if I were a blackbird and had wings to fly, I would fly to the spot where my true love does lie; And with my little fluttering wings, his wounds I would heal, And it's all of the night on his breast I'd remain. Chorus Broken-hearted I wander, for the loss of my lover, He's my bonny light horseman, in the wars he was slain. Oh! Boney, Oh! Boney, I've done you no harm, So why, tell me why you have caused such alarm, We were happy together, my true love and me, But now you have stretched him in his death over the sea.

Being a huge supporter of the anti treaty side I often think about have you reconcile staunch anti treaty supporters the Behan family were of course with the greatness and admiration for Mick Collins, but it seems it took a 12 year old boy to show us how to do that with absolute perfection. What genius Brendan was.

The Dubliners play swing jazz - now I heard everything! Seriously I never knew John Sheahan could play that Stefan Grappelli stuff! He's gotta be one of the most underrated fiddlers in Ireland.😁
