You forgot to set the target machine before starting the download (that's what tells it which patches/drivers you need), that's why it was slow during first boot. And you need to erase the drive not the partition by going to one of the menus in Disk Utility (I forget which) and select Show All Devices (not doing that usually brings issues but you were lucky). And finally Sonoma needs an APFS partition. I'm guessing you didn't read the OCLP instructions? Fun video all the same. I want a 17" MBP now that I know there's one without the problematic gpu.

One of the best computers I used in those days had an Intel Centrino Duo and Windows Vista. I loved Windows Vista, you just had to have the right spec for it but most people didn’t and OEMs bundled it onto subpar machines to boost sales. Btw Centrino is the name Intel used for the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo when paired with an Intel WiFi adapter.

I'd rather have the MacBook, well not that specific one, a working one, than a working HP Stream 11. But I love Apple computers, I used to love HP till I used the Stream jk I still like HP at least their older stuff like ProBooks and EliteBooks.

I'd forgotten about Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 even though I used them both for a long time and didn't mind them that much at the time, and really wanted a touchscreen at the time to get the full usage out of the then new features. I preferred 10 when it came out (after some complaining about the removal of the Start screen I'd gotten used to) but now I prefer 11, though there are some bad points, none of them really get in the way of my usage, and I prefer the look and feel of it. I had a HP Stream 11. I have no idea what I did with it. Besides trying every OS under the sun and finding they either wouldn't install or where slower than Windows. Even ChromiumOS sucked on it. I wanted to install Windows XP as that would have been appropriate for the specs but being "modern" it didn't want to install and I couldn't figure out slipstream.

I used this laptop for intelij, my school laptop.

I used an EEE PC during a trip to Tokyo in 2010. Back when roaming data cost $10,000/meg or something. Each night I'd use the hotel wifi and google maps/streetview to research the next day - where we had to be or wanted to go, how to get there. I create a pdf of the directions - nav directions, down to screen caps from streetview so we'd know "have to turn left at the yellow building with the Hello Kitty on top". I'd save the PDF to a usb stick and print it on the hotel printer. It was fine for the time but I know I'd likely Frisbee the thing into the next county these days.
