I guess id have to say Panzerblitz. I played those scenarios repeatedly, and made my own counters on card stock. System is still enjoyable today!

One of my all time favorites. The game favors the Allied player if both players are of equal skill. Many strategies appeared in AH’s General magazine. The Prussian Angelo-Allied player is favored.

OMG Statis Pro!! We had a whole league for both baseball and football way back mid 80’s. Had rookie drafts and I think as many as 14 teams in both for a few years. As a group we had almost the whole library of AH bookcase games in our studio we rented for gaming. What a blast. Did some home brew to fix whatever didn’t work right and just had a lot of fun.

I loved the ability to re-live a season or a series or a Superbowl... I just wish I still had that kind of time!
@johnhein166313 сағат бұрын
@ yah-I am in an OOTP league now but it is so much more complicated than Statis Pro was. I actually still have all the player cards from the last year of Statis Pro Football we played. We used to play on Sundays and watch all the games at the same time. Was so much cooler than Madden is these days…

Played many AH games in the 70s while in high school. We had a club called Der Panzer Obercommando. Remember Blitzkrieg, Diplomacy, Gettysburg, Afrika Korps, and Luftwaffe.

Nice work! I won my first game of Diplomacy, as I was stabbed in the back on the first turn, and looked pretty pathetic. I was Turkey, and the Russian player straight-up lied to me. EVERYONE came to my rescue, and knocked Russia out by turn 3. Then, they started their in-fighting, so I scooped up Russia and Scandinavia, lent some help to Germany to silence AH, and when the dust cleared, I had about 24 supply centers, and everyone agreed that it was over. I have played another 10-12 times, and never got better than 3rd place. But, I use this game in my Social Studies 11 classes to teach the students about international politics and why you simply cannot trust everyone all the time. A few friendships have been strained, to say the least, but there is something satisfying about watching Grade 11 students walking around with maps of 1901 Europe, devising strategies and laying traps, rather than staring into a phone...

1972 first Xmas I actually got what I asked for - Richthofen's War! My buddy and I got caught attempting to shoplift mini tanks by the hobby shop owner. He asked us why we wanted them and when we said we played with them attempting to recreate battles, he invited us to come over to his house that friday night for the Wargaming Club. That started off a lifetime of Avalon Hill, SPI, GDW, and many more now gone and forgotten games. Of all the Games over all the years, I did have a favorite: The original 1977 Wacht Am Rhein. There is still a 1980's copy of AH Battle of the Bulge in my back bedroom closet I have had since college.

I also lack the inclination to buy ASL. I have all of the basic Squad Leader game and expansions, and while imperfect, it's unlimited fun. While I personally collected more games by SPI, AH definitely got things started for me with Jutland. Thanks so much for the trip down memory lane!

🤣⚾️🎲 Long ago, at nerd camp in teen years before the driver’s license age, a new friend introduced me to Status Pro Baseball. My first batter came to bat. My friend, as pitcher, rolled some dice and consulted some tables… …Leadoff home run. My next batter came to bat. My friend rolled some dice and consulted some tables and rolled again. Then he looked confused, delved the rules, consulted more tables, and all but conducted deep research on whatever the thrown bones showed. Apparently, the dice indicated that this particular pitcher had suffered an injury, and further, the injury was career ending! I nerdily pointed out that this injury and its timing, as far as we were concerned, made his career ERA “infinity” (undefined; 1 / 0) making him the worst pitcher ever. We rolled with laughter, put the game away, and never played it again. How can you beat that for cardboard humor? 🤣

My two favorites are Squad Leader and Wooden Ships Iron Men. I have spent many of hours with my friends playing Squad Leader in High School and college and in many game stores. In High School. My friends and I would start playing it Friday night and into Sunday afternoon if time was not a factor and I was able to get the large living room table to play on. My dad would sometimes watch the game and laugh at some of the tactics used. He would then tell us of some of his experience in the Army. I started playing Wooden Ships Iron Men in the early 90's. I had a friend who collected minis of different ships and we used them often in that game. I still love playing both games. I would love to have new players. Squad Leader players are hard to find.

Africa Corp was the one I played the most. I was never much good at it for i always lost Tobruk when I played the allies, which was most of the time. Blitzkrieg I played 4 or 5 times as the allies and I always lost Moscow. Aagain, never was much good at it. Never the less, i enjoyed these games and have fond memories of those days.

I discovered Avalon Hill wargames in December 1966 when I was in 10th grade. The first one I owned was Africa Korps which was the only one I played with my Dad who served in North Africa in WWII. In early 1967, I discovered Chris Wagner's Strategy and Tactics (S&T) Magazine and, a bit later, James F. Dunnigan's Kampf pamphlets. S&T's revised OB's for AH's Stalingrad captured my imagination and I spent the next 30 years researching combat in the East. I discovered Calhamer's Diplomacy in college before AH took it over. For AH, I guess my favorite games were Battle of the Bulge, Blitzkrieg, Panzerblitz, Jutland, and 1914. S&T added to Blitzkrieg, Modular Blitzkrieg, which was an interesting modification. S&T introduced me to Roger Cormier's Trafalgar, Phil Orbane's Gamescience Corporation (from which I acquired Vietnam, Confrontation, and Battle of Britain), and Doug Malewicki's Nuclear War (the only game I've ever played where everyone could and did lose). Before becoming SPI, S&T published Flight of the Goeben of which, at one time, I thought about trying to create a computer version in the early 80s. My 10th grade geometry teacher (head of the wargamer's club) also introduced me to Richard Gutenkunst's Iwo Jima and a revised OB for Battle of the Bulge. My association with S&T also introduced me to the brief but prolific existence of Rand Game Associates. I liked these games because a number of them were a departure from the 'traditional' hexagon overlaid mapboard. I could probably go on and on but I imagine folks are burned out from this wall of text. I'll end this missive with mention that the first (and I think only) AH game my Dad purchased was Dispatcher. A lot of good memories from a time when wargames were quite popular. Thanks for the video.

Got the Starship Troopers Game one long ago Christmas. It wasn't very playable but they did a nice job of trying to simulate the books. Outdoor survival was often used for DnD wilderness travel. Afrika Corps was the first historical simulation game I ever played. Yes My Dad bought Diplomacy. You could never play with the same group twice. God the three of my us my brothers and I played Sink the Bismark for a couple Christmases in a row. We played Statis Pro Baseball back in the 1970's. We had a six or five player league. I played a lot of Panzer Blitz and a little later an Arab- Israeli war variation.
