Hi Focusrite, in the market for a Clarett+ Octopre (I have the Clarett+ 8pre) and would intend on connecting them via ADAT. 3 questions: Am I right in thinking that with the insert I can use a Y cable and the singular output socket acts as a send (output) and return (input) to outboard gear? Also, can I use these in post for adding outboard effects and what output do I send my signal to? can ADAT handle that? Also final question! will the insert bypass the preamp once returning to the Octopre? I wouldn't want any extra colouring from the preamp. I appreciate thats a lot to ask but would be super grateful for some guidance! Thank you
@FocusriteTV

Hi, thank you for reaching out, we're happy to hear you are interested in Clarett+ Octopre. Because Clarett+ Octopre features ADAT in and out, you can digitally route its outputs in Focusrite Control. The preamp is not fully bypassed when connecting to the line inputs because the signal must go through the variable gain section. This is because the Clarett+ octopre does not feature fixed gain inputs. However, this will add minimal color to your signal. As for the inserts, more info on their functionality can be found on page 11 of the user guide which I've linked here: fael-downloads-prod.focusrite.com/customer/prod/downloads/Clarett%2B%20OctoPre%20User%20Guide%20V5%20-%20EN.pdf Please let us know if this helps or if we can answer additional questions.

@@FocusriteTV Thanks for that! I had a read but am still unsure about using outboard effects post recording using the insert jacks. To use gear after recording would I have to just use the line outputs and send the signal back in the normal mic/line inputs or is there a way of using the insert jacks instead of that to save the mic inputs for microphones. Cheers!
@FocusriteTV
@FocusriteTV 10 күн бұрын
Octopre inserts are typically used with the following signal flow: - Send signal to OctoPre's line outputs via ADAT - Connect OctoPre Line Out to Outboard Line In - Apply effects - Connect Outboard Line Out to OctoPre Line In - OctoPre Line In is sent via ADAT Out back to "main" interface
@freddiebarrguitar

@@FocusriteTV Ok got it, you can't use the insert jack on the octopre to add hardware inserts post recording you have to use line outputs (db25) and the line in preamps. So the function of the insert jack is only for live tracking/recording with hardware and cannot be used as an insert after I assume. Thanks for the replies!

What if you plug it into the amp instead of the mic?
@FocusriteTV

If your amp has a line output, you can connect this directly to your Scarlett, but otherwise, it's best to use a microphone to record your amp.

Are the gain halos lighting up green when you use the mic? That indicates the levels are good. The space where you record can affect the quality of your recordings. If it sounds like you're far away from the mic, you might want to try recording in different rooms or spaces in your home. Sometimes the ambient noise in the room can make it feel like you're farther away from the mic than you actually are.

@FocusriteTV

Generally speaking, your computer operating system can only access and use 1 audio interface or soundcard at a time. If you require an audio interface with 4 mic preamps, you may want to consider Scarlett 18i16.

Hi, thank you for reaching out, we'd be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding Focusrite Control 2. All 4th generation Scarletts feature loopback that can be configured in Focusrite Control 2. All 4th gen Scarletts (except solo) allow you to link channels and create stereo pairs, and all allow you to combine inputs. As for EQ, Focusrite Control 2 is a program dedicated to remote controlling parameters on Scarlett and does not feature EQ or other processing to not add additional latency or CPU strain. Two questions: 1.Can i record with my iPhone? 2. Do i need a TRRS cable for that?
@FocusriteTV
@FocusriteTV Ай бұрын
You can connect a phone to Vocaster Two to record a conversation or capture music from the phone. The rear panel features a 3.5 mm TRRS jack socket for phone connectivity. To connect, use a 3.5 mm TRRS cable with the phone’s headphone socket, which is typically a 3.5 mm TRRS port. A 3.5 mm TRS cable will also work, but you may not get two-way communication with your phone guest. If your phone doesn’t have a 3.5 mm headphone port, you can use a 3.5 mm TRRS adapter.

Yes, you can record directly to an iPhone. You can either connect via a 3.5 mm cable from the phone output on Vocaster, or you can connect via USB, as described in the articles below: lightning: support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115005430409-Using-bus-powered-Scarletts-with-Lightning-iOS-devices USB-C: support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360012532199-Connecting-your-USB-C-iPad-with-your-Audio-Interface These articles refer to iPad, but the information applies to all iOS devices.

Also, I'm thinking about getting a synth (hydrasynth explorer). My question is can I keep the mics plugged in the front and plug the synth into the 3rd and 4th inputs on the back? So I can record at the same time (for example, laying down a guitar loop and playing the keyboard over it)
@FocusriteTV
@FocusriteTV Ай бұрын
Yes, The line inputs on Scarlett 4i4 are separate from the 2 microphone/instrument combo inputs on the front of the device. There are no gain controls for inputs 3 and 4, but these are designed to capture line-level inputs and can be used simultaneously with inputs 1 and 2.

Would vocaster be preferred in Voice Over work compared to the scarlett?
@FocusriteTV
@FocusriteTV Ай бұрын
If you are exclusively doing voiceover work, Vocaster may be the correct interface for you for several reasons. -Vocaster interfaces do not have 1/4 inch instrument inputs, which are not necessary if you are only doing voiceover. - Vocaster features enhance presets, which allow your audio signal to be optimized for vocal work. - Finally, the features on Vocaster are designed to especially accommodate vocal applications. These include dedicated mute buttons, auto gain, and Vocaster Hub. More info can be found below, but please let us know if we can answer additional questions. us.focusrite.com/vocaster
