New subscriber here and I signed up for your newsletter. As a new writer myself hearing another's insights is so valuable. Congratulations on "This Cruel Fate". I'm still at the editing stage myself so it's encouraging to see someone who made it through that. I've bought it on kindle and will be sure to leave a review once I've read it.

Hi! Thank you so much!! :) I appreciate it! The editing stage was definitely one of those stages where the imposter syndrome kicked my butt, but the editing is what really makes your story shine! You and your story will make it through the editing stage and it'll be so worth it!

How do you not like Harry Potter?But you like lord of the rings. They have so many similarities. I'm that same way tbh. Love harry potter but so far lord of the rings doesn't intrest me
@maddibluhme4 ай бұрын
Yes, even though they have similar over-arching themes and character archetypes, the stories and worlds and characters are all incredibly unique. I think the Eragon books have some similarities to these two franchises too, but it's how they are told! And I think that's the great thing about having so many stories because taste is so subjective that we can find things that fit our tastes but have similar meanings!

Agree! I feel the pressure and see others doing so much better than me. I've had to put reading/writing aside when I started college, and my writing went downhill. I've also gone through career changes and motherhood, and I'm finally in a place where I can focus on the two again. Audiobooks have been a lifesaver for me, and I finally finished the second draft of my novel.... And I've also observed authors' writings go downhill from producing and producing just to meet the demands of fans/publishers. Definitely take things slow.

Hey Maddi! I rarely comment on your videos but I've been enjoying your content since your world building vlog, I find it super inspiring and use it as a breather between whatever I'm working on. I often stress to finish projects and I can see the shift in quality of work when I do. This applies to more than writing, which you've nuanced by saying art, and I cannot agree more. Thanks for the video
@maddibluhme9 ай бұрын
Aww thank you so much!! I'm glad you related to the video! It's sometimes hard to find that balance between staying motivated and working at a good pace, and losing sight of the project in favor of the deadline.

hi maddi (: fellow slow writer here. i think quality wins over quantity every single time. we slow writer girlies are just as valid as those who write faster. we're all on our own writing journeys and that's okay!

The average American has a 7th grade reading level... that hurts me. Greatly. It makes me worried that writing with the fancy vocab I enjoy is going to shrink my readerbase.
@maddibluhme9 ай бұрын
I think you should write with whatever vocab you want to! I learn new words from books all the time, and reading is a skill so as people read more and more, their skill in reading will grow. I’ve seen some commenters on booktok saying how they started with CoHo and are now reading Dostoyevsky! Write for you and your readers will come ❤️

Great video! I appreciate the reflection on goal-setting and embracing change, both in storytelling and life and I myself have a very hard timmmee with this too ugh! It's such a struggle. I am like you, I work a LOT so it does make it harder to be super committed the way I want to be. It's evident that you're investing in yourself and your craft and thats admirable in an of itself. I'm excited to follow your journey as you continue to grow as a storyteller! 💫

I highly recommend "Street Candles" by David Collins-Rivera. Really unique sci fi, and a powerfully emotional story about political instability and war. Haunted me for weeks. (don't be fooled by the truly lackluster cover art)

Literally took me watching your review to realize I had confused Fall of Ruin and Wrath with JLAs other book Rage and Ruin. I will never be on her side for her naming; characters, series, places, or books. It is the most confusing thing to introduce people to her.
