Hi Joe! Any plans to return? Recently I’ve returned after a 2 year absence and I’ve created this new channel for a fresh start and most of the old channels I used to watch have just disappeared Hope you’re doing well, Laurie from East Coast Parkway

Hi Laurie, I’m still here! Hope you’re doing well. I do plan to make a new video one day (well I have a half complete one somewhere), unfortunately don’t have the time like I used to, particularly with my frequent volunteering at local railway. Still buying bits for the layout although it hasn’t changed massively, also delving more into O gauge. I’ll have to look to start making a new video soon. Cheers Joe!

Are the dapol class 73s any good because I’m tempted to get one
@McMetro Жыл бұрын
@@lucahorsman4743 They are rather good, the detail is particularly nice. The only issue is the way the bogies are attached means they hang so model can derail easily over complicated section of track or if not put on rails properly.

The valley doesn’t look the same without them… I remember where I was when they blew the cooling towers up; in a computer science classroom about 5 miles away, and yet we still heard the explosion
@McMetro Жыл бұрын
It’s a real shame they went, I really hope the site can be used effectively. Hopefully the Telford Steam Railway work their way to the site and construct their proposed station. I was fortunate enough to get the day off… 😉
@bennickss Жыл бұрын
@@McMetro Highly unlikely they’ll ever get to Ironbridge. They were meant to reach Doseley 4 years ago, and are hardly 30 metres out of Horsehay & Dawley. The bridge which was donated by Network Rail meant to span the A442 is rusting away and will likely be scrapped.
@McMetro Жыл бұрын
@@bennickss I still have hope, but yes, the extension to Doseley is taking much longer than expected. As someone involved in the heritage rail meat sector, I personally know the challenges. I think things could get back in gear when Network Rail have cleared Albert Edward Bridge over the Severn and the power station starts to see actual development, particularly of the planned community and retail spaces.
@bennickss Жыл бұрын
@@McMetro TSR can’t do anything. They’re completely dead in the water. The trust was formed in 1976, around 6 years before BR ripped up the Doseley line. Reportedly, they could have had the line in both directions (all the way from Lawley into what was once Wellington Platform 6) and yet they did nothing. Fast forward to today and their line is an absolute wreck. A decaying auto coach among several other “preserved” pieces of rolling stock sit abandoned, listed as “awaiting restoration” which will never come. Among the forgotten is a rare MK1 pullman car and a pre-grouping LNWR coach, both seemingly abandoned. The brand new pacers which they’ve bought have been shoved into a siding and forgotten about.
@McMetro Жыл бұрын
@@bennickss I believe TSR isn’t unique to that early situation, with many other railways having the opportunity to purchase intact trackbed and line, only to fall short at the asking price. It seems, quite understandably I suppose, they are focusing on the mk2s as they form the main set, particularly for Polar Express operation. Hopefully the rarer vehicles with no foreseeable restoration with TSR could be moved on to other railways, so TSR can truly focus on their current aims and have that small sale income. Although, I wonder if any of those are private vehicles, which other than evict, the TSR have no hand in. Hopefully they can slowly progress to Doseley, and then look to the future afterward. The location within Telford and near Ironbridge gives the railway potential however with the much more popular SVR nearby, that can’t do anything to help visitor numbers with only certain enthusiasts and locals enjoying the line during the normal season.

Hi mcmetro, just about to get stuck into all this dcc stuff and do have a flying Scotsman that I would like to convert, but a couple of questions if I may? 1) I presume the addition was both the chip and the decoder? 2) are the front boogies very loose on your model? If so did you manage to firm them up
@McMetro2 жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 1) All you need for the DCC installation is a decoder ( you may here the decoder referred as a ‘chip’ in mine and others’ videos however usually implied as the same ) 2) I haven’t used my Flying Scotsman in a short while however I don’t believe the front bogies are too loose - if you have an issue it may be worth contacting Hornby. Hope this helps!

A lot of people are worried about hard wiring because of possibly "frying" the decoder. You can now buy an 8pin female socket with wiring harness for about £3 or less. Once you have hard wired it you fit a blanking plug. That way you can check on DC that your wiring is correct. Gaugemaster sell a DCC 29 Decoder which you can then fit after first removing the blanking plug.

Ooooh a modern image GWR layout? Sign me up! I really like the combination of roundy-roundy layout (for the main lines) *and* end to end layout (for the branch) all in one, and the attention to detail for the backstory and setting is just *chefs kiss* I LOVE that kind of detail! And the nod to Bath Spa is great. Looking forward to following your progress ^_^
@McMetro2 жыл бұрын
Haha thanks! Anything green, shiny and new is king! 😂 A mix of roundy and end-to-end is definitely good fun as you get your constant running experience but also a bit more involved operations on the branch with stopping and starting and switching points. I love a good back story and history as it helps to explain every development on a layout although I like to leave a couple grey areas for a bit of imagination! Hopefully it won’t take forever for the next video… already have a few ideas! 😃
