Most important I learned where Python runs! What was missing is that VBA is a cross Office tool. For example I wrote a tool which read email then worked on the excel attachment and then sent out emails. You can also access word and powerpoint with VBA.

Thanks for this great video! I'm a product manager/data analyst at a small startup focused on chronic pain. I want to upskill into data science/ML over the next couple of years. Right now I'm doing some basic (but still useful!), just descriptive stats and basic inferential stats, but I'm really excited to learn and apply these kinds of techniques to our data in the future, as we have a very rich and unique data set on chronic pain patients. The examples you provided really helped me see the relevance.

Dave: I've viewed other Python videos, and in frustration I looked around until I found yours. I really appreciate that you have expanded your mouse pointer to be large and filled in with black - just like my mouse pointer. Great minds think alike. Most online instructors just use the default tiny white mouse pointer, which CANNOT BY SEEN clearly, especially when the pointer is moved quickly and then pointed to a white area on a white background. You get it. 👍

@@DaveOnData I use Windows. It works there, also. I've experienced that some of the editing parts on your video vary widely from what I experience on my Chrome browser on Windows. I shall persevere. I'll have to view the Jupyter videos. I have to assume that Anaconda, and Jupyter in particular, have been update since you recorded this video. I am following along with your video; some of the Python commands work exactly as you demonstrate, other Python commands don't work at all. That's life in the digital world. 🤔

@DavGre - I don't have videos on feature selection/engineering, but I do cover those topics in my online course. I rarely use dimension reduction (e.g., PCA) in my ML work because I use decision tree-based techniques (e.g., the mighty random forest) that don't require it.

Superb video and explanation and learnt a lot with this Pandas crash course. Thanks Dave. I do have two questions: 1) Once we wrangle the data, how can we make these changes permanent? 2) do we need to know which attributes and methods we need to write? I mean when you write DataFrame or column name, the methods and attributes associated with it are not shown (as a dropdown), they need to be typed explicitly.

Just had one question... I looked at the CSV files. And I was wondering how large the original data set is. Meaning I understand that you took data out of a larger data set to create the training set.. and I understand because you put 3,000 in. 3000 from the original data set. Is used for the learning set... Or did I not understand that aspect
@DaveOnDataАй бұрын
The CSVs a are cleaned subset of the original dataset. You can get the original raw data here: archive.ics.uci.edu/dataset/2/adult

Very interesting and helpful. The greedy aspect I struggle with, are there alternatives that combine root nodes or is it a problem that gets solved with larger data sets?
@DaveOnDataАй бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video! As to your question, what aspect of greedy selection are you struggling with?
@VastCNCАй бұрын
@@DaveOnData I just thought the selection of the first that met the criteria would neglect the 2nd, or more parameters that also met the criteria, so could be leaving out key criteria that could inter-relate to future nodes more effectively than the first. I think it’s more of a glaring issue with the contrived example, and probably moot in larger data samples, in which it’s intended to function.
@DaveOnDataАй бұрын
If I understand your concern correctly, one way to think about decision trees' greedy nature is computational complexity. To keep this simple, let's think only about the tree's root node. In an ideal world, the decision tree algorithm would always pick the root note based on the single most optimal combination of dataset and hyperparameter values. However, this is computationally infeasible as the algorithm must search through every possible tree that could be learned before knowing the single best root node.

This is precisely why many of my clients are excited by Python in Excel - no local installation is required. Additionally, many of their IT departments are already using Azure, making Python in Excel a very attractive option for them.
