If I was doing a remake of “The Karate Kid” I’d have you as Mr. Miyagi showing Daniel the proper moves with your shaping strokes, instead of “wax on, wax off.” Speed it up to 2x and it almost balletic. Like you’re shaping flow into it, which I guess you are in a way.

I have a board with the rails I like what’s best method to make rail gauge , I saw you use wire , I tried fence tying wire aluminum but it keeps bending back and doesn’t hold shape of the rail exactly . Is there different method and do you have different rails on different types boards cuz when I surf boards with thicker rails it doesn’t turns as well as use like

That’s amazing! Thank you. A question, please…. Will this work just as well using EPOXY and 6 Oz cloth on EPS? EDIT: In another comment he said it works with epoxy and really well with tint too. Don’t know about using 6 oz cloth and EPS yet though.

Finally found this after lots of deep dive in the interwebs! Thanks for sharing. Still a little bit confused as to what you are pressing/bending with the screw driver… is it the teeth on the index plate that you push up outa the way? Or is it the metal slide that extends out of the opening that tells you what depth you’re at that gets bent? I don’t want to accidentally damage anything I can’t undo, but there’s no clear video anywhere that shows how to make this crucial mod. Any info detailing what you’re bending would be appreciated! Thanks Matt 🙏🏼

There is a disc shape aluminum plate with the little clicker notches on it and you just take a small screwdriver and push it about a millimeter away from your adjustment lever so you don't have to take anything apart and you don't have to alter the machine at all because I love to keep mine in original condition

@@kazumasurfboards This made complete sense to me. I worked factory hot coating for a bit and that's what made this click for me. Funny I found this because I have been planning on doing my own completes. The laminating and the fin boxes are what has held me up. Thanks again man. Cheers

I watched twice so don't think I missed it but how to mark out the transition of the corner radius which on my boards is about 1/64th or less along the rail near the fins, and transitioning up to an inch or more of radius in the middle and then of course decreasing again but never as hard as a 64th toward the nose?

This fine details are made by eye but the way people screen rails will determine the finished look and flow. Most shapers screen the same so the fine details naturally come out the same

In most cases that one could be true but the cut will not be vertical which leads to that waviness visually in the finished shape

Matt, thanks for sharing, but i got a question, base on your knolege what is the Best minimun and maximun tail rocker a board can have, don't know if the question is right or if You get the idea of it.😅
@kazumasurfboards
@kazumasurfboards Жыл бұрын
Tough question because it depends on the length of board butlers say shortboard under 6'8" long. 1.75" to 3" have been successfully used by various shapers but let's say that I could only pick one tail rocker number for every board under 6'6", it would be 2.25"

How much should you save of the vertical side wall? Since most boards don't have a vertical side wall I guess you blend close to 0 at the end?
@kazumasurfboards
@kazumasurfboards Жыл бұрын
Yes you will nearly eliminate any flat but the point is that once you eliminate the flat on that sidewall you stsrt to change your outline and that introduces problems

How much do you shape the bottom up (towards the deck) or how much do you leave in tolerance to skim the deck for a finished thickness? ie; 3" starting blank, wanting 2 1/2" for example? Thank you for all of your information and effort to video, explain, and reply. 😊

Super! I'm currently making a handful of boards after only ever having made a dozen, the last one being 30 yrs ago. 2 days ago I had to strip a lam off because it kicked before I had the rails wet out and down (I misread the uv directions by a factor of x10 haha). I did ok with my next try last night, but since one of the shapes is in EPS foam, I'm gonna have your heart attack unless I can double speed my game. Your method looks like a real viable alternative and I will try it on the other boards first (the epoxy last). However, since I'm double glassing the decks: How does this method work for 2 layers - just paint it a bit thicker initially? Thanks so much for this vid!
@kazumasurfboards
@kazumasurfboards Жыл бұрын
Usually on the deck you would put down the 1st layer and trim it 1st. Then you could paint on the resin then pull the 2nd layer on like this

Good video. I'm 72 I've surfed in south Africa through the the 60s 70s 80s 90 ofs 2000s then I had a heart attack at 64 and the coma and that's what fucked it up . In the uk . Ifyou have a coma You completely forget how to surf and it's like a child having to learn all over again. I I started from scratch and do a dozen popups atleast every day. Still haven't stood up fully yet but our surf in Torquay Devon is shit so it's not helping .want to buy a car now just to reach the waves. I make boards at home and that keeps me satisfied just paddling them on the Torbay flat lake.. keep up the great videos you a great surfer thanks....
