Really like these rider/shaper breakdowns. I'm learning a lot about the applied design thought process. After the video posted in which you analysed and identified the rail issue you felt in that board I've been doing the same to boards I ride to better understand the shape and its effects. It has been very useful Thank you

As I get older and fatter my rocker numbers get lower and flatter just to keep my fat ass planing and I need that wider tail on smaller waves

Yes that extra "resistance" can be magical to keep you up on the water instead of plowing
@sctim123

so if you were going to pull in the tail width, what is the minimum amount you would decrease it by? 1/4", 1/2"?
@kazumasurfboards
@kazumasurfboards 2 жыл бұрын
I will start with pulling it in 1/4" then it will be great in everything flat to head high. If I go 1/2" less then it would like waves above hip high

how could you modify that board to make it go better without having to make a new one? for example change the fins change the bottom edge near the tail etc. how could you fine tune it without doing major surgery?
@kazumasurfboards
@kazumasurfboards 2 жыл бұрын
That is a good question. I could simply change out that trailing fin to a little smaller one which will allow it to turn tighter. Great remedy and a quick way to fine tune a board

@@kazumasurfboards thanks for the reply! yep the quickest way to change a board, change the fins.

When I heard 7/8” at 12” in the tail I immediately went uh oh …. Little more lift back there and keep that beautiful wider tail. Or lay the side fins over a smidge to counter the lower tail rocker resistance . Richo always told me . Higher tail rocker side fins a little less can’t . Low tail rocker ….. Lay those baby’s over …
