It's too bad nowadays. People are so overly sensitive to everything and become outraged at the drop of a pin. This scene was so simple and so funny because it didn't intend to be disrespectful or racist in any way It was just funny.

I agree with Lisa Cupcake. Mike was getting free rent and meals there, and constantly argued with Archie. Plus, Gloria worked to put him through college, and he later dumped her for a younger chick. What a jackass. For all his gripes about Archie, he needed to have a long hard look at his own self. He was a moocher who had no appreciation of Gloria.

Grew up watching this show. Can't play it now ,it would offend too many people. Comedy shows now aren't funny . This show was hilarious

Edith was consistently the funniest character on that show. The amount of brilliant writing and acting it must have taken to create such brilliantly stupid lines lmfao

Archie, may have been a bigot, but he was a much better father than James Evans. Archie never seemed he was going to hit Edith Gloria or Mike.

The funniest irony about this scene is that Archie sees Mr Jeffersons dressed as a "Black Santa' and subconsciously thinking that Santa wasnt "supposed to be black and later he and Jefferson argue wheather or not God is White or Black or not . Later in another episode is when Irene fixes the lock on the door to the cellar Archie accidentally locks himself down there has only a bottle of strong Polish Vodka and drinks it to keep warm, passes out and he begins to hallucinate believing he is about to die and go live with the Lord. Then he awakens to a knock on the door .(its actually the oil man who cant get it open) So then Archie talks into his tape recorder and says this is it here i go and turns around to see what he believes is GOD him self (the oil man who happens to be black) falls to his knees and in disbelief says "Forgive me lord I cant believe it ..The Jefferson's was right about you all along!"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I was 11 years old when "All in the Family" debuted. I remember everyone being shocked, asking why this was ever allowed on the air... but they were also laughing hysterically. It soon became the most popular thing on television. The very first episode opened with a disclaimer: “The program you are about to see is All In The Family. It seeks to throw a humorous spotlight on our frailties, prejudices, and concerns. By making them a source of laughter, we hope to show - in a mature fashion - just how absurd they are.”

I am white but in my rehab they gave me a nice Xmas gift bag with a black Santa. I love it because it immediately reminded me of this scene. One of the best; this is too short, the funniest was after this clip ends. The AITF where Archie is drunk and stuck in a locked room, and hears his rescuer and thinks it's God .... he sees a black man "Lord forgive me. The Jeffersons was right!" a brilliant and hilarious scene.

The ironic thing is now the left just lumps you in with your ethnic or racial group and expects everyone from that group to act the same. None of this getting to know them as individuals.
