Rosalia literally studied classical flamenco at university and she’s actively trying to keep the culture alive through her work and she plays internments and produces her own shit too. People were trying to Cancel her for appropriating Romani culture by singing the flamenco style and referencing it in her music and I almost jumped on the bandwagon, but after doing my research, I was like oh she’s literally a scholar of this culture and has so much respect for it. Few pop artists are as dedicated to her craft as much as she is.
@MoreThanFuel3 ай бұрын
Antoine the monstrous femininity you’re describing in the Rosalia tour is definitely from the mind of mecnun giasar!! I watched them ascend form the early grainy KZbin days to where they are now and it’s so crazy how unique their movement quality is. Neither mecnun nor Rosalia are native to Reggaeton or Flamenco. Mecnun is Turkish and Rosalia is ethnically Spanish and not from the Romani “Gypsy” culture/ethnic group that flamenco comes from. But what they both have is work ethic and respect and for the source cultures that they draw from and you feel it in their performances and their work.

I really felt the part about dancers actually BEING the artists as opposed to being in service to someone else’s artistic vision. And I agree that the world is actually ready for it. Some artists who really respect dance and do a whole show based on it (Janet, Tinashe, FKA twigs) are the ones pushing the art form into mainstream. Social media is already so visual and dance is the perfect art form to thrive on social media (hence why TikTok is so huge rn) so I think the future. KZbin is literally what got me into dance in the late 2010s as a college sophomore. And I feel you as well on the need for more KZbin/ long form content. I would love to see more vlogs and conversations like this on yt.

Antoine, I just want to say that this video is amazing!!! I know I will watch it at least 20 times more. It has so much great insight that I just couldn't absorb it all by watching it once. I'm in college, and what I'm majoring in is the very opposite of dancing, but in the back of my mind, I've always wanted to dance, regardless of whether it's as a career or just for fun. I've been having a mini-crisis every day about what I want to do with my life because I feel like who I truly am and what I really want to do are very different from the career path that I'm going into. One thing certain is that I want to start dancing as soon as possible. There isn't any professional dance studio nearby where I live, but I'm flying back to my hometown next week, so I'm hoping to sign up for a dance class or something if there are any openings. Anyway, I could tell you have gone through a ton of self conversation and reflection and I am so grateful that you were nice enough to share what you've found! Thank you!!

I truly appreciate you for making this video!! I watched the whole video recently, and this is helpful for me to gain more knowledge about the expectations and understanding the insights of becoming a professional dancer in the industry. It is a DREAM of mine to be in a career that is surrounded by people who have the same mindset, values, morals and passion as me when it comes to dancing. Of course, I wanted to take my dancing into the next level because I believe in myself. This video really motivated me to keep going. As a Deaf Black female dancer, I have been through so many obstacles that I faced in life and I did not let that stop me from wanting to pursue my dreams. I definitely took notes throughout this video. Once again, THANK YOUUU SO MUCH!! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you again for coming back to making these! You are truly filling a void in dance media because these are the only long-form authentic conversations/interviews about dance that I’ve seen anywhere. And it’s such a crucial resource for me as someone who is trying to get into the industry trying to find my way and not living in NYC or LA or Atlanta or any of the other Dance hubs. I truly feel like you are a mentor to me and your advice always rings so true and you pick the best guests for these talks and ask such good questions! Can’t thank you enough.

Hey thanks for the video.. idk if you're still reading and replying to the comments but if you do i would love some guidance. So im currently 16 and I'm from & live in Indonesia. I've been dancing since i was 7 and have learned a lot of dance genre/styles. Being a professional commercial dancer/industry dancer and working in the US is what i wanna do with my life. But i just dont know how to get into the industry. Im planning on taking the certificate program by millennium dance complex after i graduate high school. But i don't know where to go from there, i mean I know i should audition for agencies but there is just a lot of what ifs and questions. What if in those 6 minths period they dont held an audition, what if i don't make it, cam i even audition with the tourist visa?, is being dancer a stable enough job, etc. Especially bcs im from Indonesia and i don't know if i can just stay/live in LA after the certificate program is done. But like i said being a professional commercial/industry dancer is all want to do with my life .. i don't wanna go to a university and study something so i can just have a job that i don't even like.,i know there are dance major is some universities but theyre so expensive and i cant afford that, that's why i planned to do rhe certificate program bcs it's much more cheaper but still a really good way to improve my dance skills so that i can make it into the dance industry.i dont wanna stay here in indonesia, there is so little opportunities for dancers.

Honestly this is such a great podcast and such a treasure. I’ve listened to each of them and I’m so happy that you’re back. I’m leaving with my 11 pages of notes and such a food for thought and action 📚🎒 And this is so important to hear from one of the leaders of the industry about slowing down and actually processing everything. Because our generation is so lost with all the social media that we actually have no idea how to properly work on ourselves and how to put quality first. So thank you for emphasizing on that so much. What I would also be interested to hear is about your first steps as a creator, the moment you realized that you don’t want to follow anymore, but to lead, or you always envisioned yourself as a leader
