Our family had gas guzzlers. Parked them for 2 pintos in 73. One a 71 model. Second one a 73. . Both 4 speed. Friend of ours had hotrod Chevy 4 speed..she sold it to get Vega. She was shifting it one day and her foot went into the floor. One year old rust bucket. She never got chance to blowup the engine. Our 73 had absolutely no horsepower. But it ran till 1985. 150,000. Rear end quit. Top loader shifter came out of gate. Me on a date borrowing mom's ride. "Watch this" lifted gear shifter and waved it at her" . Stop, let me out. Right now.😮

As long as you didn’t get rear ended they were good. A rearmed hit over 25mph and boom exploding gas tank🔥

I picked the Gremlin over the Pinto as my first car. The engine choice was 232 or 258 cu inch 6 cylinder, or a huge 304/v8. That thing moved!

My high school buddy purchased a new 1973 Pinto Runabout 4 speed Butterscotch color… Neat little car… I would later buy a triple Firethorn red 1975&1/2 Chevy Monza Towne Coupe with a Getrag 5 speed M/T… NowToday, our roads are Clogged with huge fuel gulping 4 door pick-up trucks ALL with bad exhaust systems, Folks knock the 1970’s… and THESE days are supposedly “BETTER “??? I THINK NOT.😳😬 CB

So easy to work on, even the gas tank could be replaced easily after an explosive rear end collusion. 😁 I owned an orange Pinto for 3 or so years, it was a decent car.

I had a 1974 piss green color pinto. I bought it in 1981 for $775 I was in the 9th grade and drove it until 86. I 4 wheeled in it up rough hills. The only problem I remember is the clutch cable ball at the petal would break off and the clutch didn’t disengage. So I put it in 1st gear and started it with the starter and had to jerk it in neutral. I miss those days 😂

Pintos were employed as MP vehicles in West Germany in the 1970s. Military police also drove Mavericks there. They looked much more stylish and distinctive than the typical German cars which looked bland in contrast.

The problem with the pinto it would jamb the doors and burst into flames with a 30 mile per hour impact in the rear.

My sister and mother were killed in the auto accident. The Ford had been rear ended and exploded like a small bomb.… No I’m just kidding the Ford was great. It never blew up but I did ride in the back of it a lot and I can remember taking it to the Ford garage and having the gas tank fixed so it would not turn into a gigantic bomb.

My father bought my mother a Ford Pinot. It was brown with black interior. You ordered the back window tinted it did not come tinted.… It was a great car. My mother loved it me and my sister were so happy to have a new car and then it blew up.

My parents bought a brand new Pinto in 1974. It’s the car I learned to drive in. They kept it for 15 years. My dad could do anything mechanically for that car, and it was probably the most dependable of all the cars I’ve had experience with. I don’t know why it gets such a bum rap.
