I was only 2 years old in 1963. However, I had gasoline surging through my veins before I could even crawl. As I got older, I fell in love with sitcoms like "Hazel", "Leave It To Beaver", "Bewitched", etc. I watched for all of the beautiful cars. I still watch these shows 60 years later and enjoy them all. The cars of the 1960's were so beautiful. I loved the silver, 1963 Thunderbird Roadster that "Mr. B"'s bitchy sister drove. That T-Bird Roadster was one of the most striking cars of the '60s. I'd give anything to go back to the 1960s and 1970s to be a kid again. So glad I can remember riding in, driving, and owning these wonderful American cars. New cars do absolutely nothing for me. New cars all look like jelly beans on wheels.

Ms. Booth was a contemporary of Frances Bavier of TAGS in their early New York theater days .

My parents bought a used '63 Falcon Squire. It was a POS that barely had any power. My best (worst) memory was the vacuum wipers that barely moved. Did it have any engine options? The Mustang was famously based on the Falcon undercarriage, and it had engine options, like a 289 V8 !

Looks like they did these quite a few of these ads. Since it was "Hazel" and not Shirley Booth etc. the contract was likely between Ford and the sitcom's producer and the actors were required to do it with little extra compensation. The show was a hit and the actors were very popular. Paid endorsements would have been profitable. Always READ your contract, haha.

@g0989
@g0989 4 ай бұрын
In 1963 factory air conditioning would have been installed on a pretty small percentage of the "Low Priced Three" nameplates. Wasn't on a large percentage of the more upscale brands, either, at that time. Most of those installs likely would have been cars sold in the Southwestern part of the country. I think the '63 T-Bird may have been the only Ford model with dashboard-integrated factory A/C that year. If I'm not mistaken, the full-size Fords didn't get built-in-the-dash A/C until the '65 model year, followed by Falcon and Fairlane in '66, and finally Mustang in '67.
@bandxdwayne
@bandxdwayne 4 ай бұрын
@@g0989 I know but I was just curious because especially on their full sized cars they kept comparing them to the Thunderbird which was evidently the flagship,that they would’ve put fully optioned cars in their commercials. All of the other automakers did the same thing. Even in the Chevy and Chrysler commercials their cars didn’t feature their in-dash factory air conditioning options. I know ac was an expensive option but when you are trying to sell your widgets in an ad campaign I would think that you would want to put the prettiest girl in the ad. The only auto maker that I can recall that really promoted that option in commercials was Nash Rambler starting in the min 50s.

You're absolutely correct....i remember the TV spots for '65 full size Fords touting the dash integration...chevy had in-dash integration starting in 1963, though their prior factory units were more subtle, with vents spread under dash on left right and middle leading up to their in-dash design . Our first AC car was a '64 Impala wagon...Harrison AC units in GM cars were far superior to Ford's clunky rumbly York compressors, silent and bone-chillingly cold. Chrysler's V-shaped Airtemp compressors were almost as good as GM's. I was always carsick as a kid...the minute we had ice-cold AC, never got sick again @@g0989.

@@stewartladuke8663 I used to think the same thing until I saw some of Classic Ride Society's junkyard videos where he has found several old cars with low level trim and AC as about the only option. I think this was more the case in humid climates where some people would forego just about everything else to get A/C. There was a family on my street that was originally from Iowa and brought their 65 Ford Country Sedan with them to Northern, CA. Anyway, this wagon was pretty bare bones, with a 3 on the tree and radio delete plate, but it had factory A/C. For a few years, I think they were the only family on our street to have it.
