Hey man, nice work. I'm doing this to the backside of my house and I have a question. Say I prep the window opening just like you did for filling in with brick, then take a string and nail them to the joint lines assuming they're level from the right side to the left side, but find out that they're not. What do I do to ensure that the brick will lay level? So it turns out that bricks on the right side of the hole are dipping down(ish) to the left where as the bricks on the left side are semi-rising to the left.. so it's kind of like a wave. If I want to straighten it out and level it, it will start hitting the middle of the bricks and won't sit right unless I cut them and if I do that, I'll have to cut every single one of them going up. What do I do to get a straight brick layment in this situation? I'm stuck. Thanks!

When they spreaded the bed they cut the excess off which they could have used the extra cement to put the perp-joint on ! 9:36 ❤sanjays perps are empty ! I’d say Chris’s is the winner on quality , but well done both of you 👍

I just started my 2nd week of trade school, currently learning bricklaying/masonry All I’ma say brotha, is it’s WILD how fast you knocked that row out- and it came out PERFECTLY lol…I take forever to get a full row done cause I be having to deeply inspect each and every brick I lay and see that they’re all level before I even go to the next. Truly hope to become as efficient at it as you are with enough practice

Why did you need the plywood? Couldn't you put the mesh straight onto the brick and then apply the scratch coat?
@MichaelRothfeld-p7m10 күн бұрын
For concrete block would you also put plywood first or could you just do the mesh?

Hi Ryan, the area under the porch where it was wood lattice, did you remove the lattice and replace with concrete block as a backing for the stone installation? Nice job! nothing compares to the look of real stone. The before and after pictures are impressive.

Truthfully, working any construction trade is not a matter of inherent skill. It is most important that someone show up, is willing to learn, gets along with the crew, and cares about the product they are producing. The “skill” of an experienced tradesman is the sum total of exercising these qualities for several years. I have had plenty of people tell me I am very good at what I do, but I can tell you that if I had a camera on me my first day doing anything I would have looked a lot like this guy. His indecision does show that he isn’t sure what to do, but it also shows that he cares about getting it right. I bet he is nervous because of the camera, the homeowner looking over his shoulder, and his coworker walking back and forth through his work space as well. If he has a good attitude and is able to learn, keep training him. It is probably worthwhile to work right alongside him so you can guide him in real time. He doesn’t look like he is ready to be left alone to figure it out.
