Sad to say it's been a little disheartening seeing Korg step away from innovating in the flagship game. Seems after OASYS, the m.o. has been to reuse those same exact sound engines inside progressively cheaper hardware. If you have an oasys, there's almost no compelling reason to get any other korg releases, other than maybe physical portability (oasys is massively big, so i did snag a 63key m50 for running around, as it is feather lite) The few extra tones and patches weren't quite enough to justify the move to kronos for me, and the nautilus seems more or less a rebadge. I gotta say, the newest montage has sound that is definitely next gen. Roland always seems ok, but I've never found any "wow" sounds from them, and for me their actions are slow and heavy, but i get that this is strictly a personal preference. The latest Montage action is amazing though, and the polyphonic aftertouch is definitely a great feature few others offer. Hope Korg revisits the game with a truly innovative offer. Also, i don't know too many folks that still produce in the workstation alone. Except for very special circumstances, almost everyone has access to some form of a DAW and will have a much easier time intuitively using it, than composing in a proprietary sequencer/multitracker embedded in their keyboard. So other than providing some sampling memory for user recorded/uploades samples, i don't care if all future flagships are "synths only" without a built-in "multitrack recording" features. Today that's about as necessary as including a casette-tape player in your car's stereo...

Almost useless … not knocking the sound quality but the cpu load is very high especially with FM-X .. hope they can remedy that but I’m not very hopeful about it. Why would they even release software that takes a 3,000 MacBook to run . So buy a Montage forget the plug-in.

Genos wins on Drums, Buttons disability, Cover Songs - all from old to new, Hundreds of New Styles Available for free you can find Genos 2 atyles converted for Genos 1 , better acoustic instruments ( strings and guitars) korg pa5x wins in : a few more modern styles, capability to combine 2 styles, better keyboard feel, metal case, inclines the screen.

thanks for the wonderful review. for those who are still choosing this will be a good helper. My K2700 has amazing sound, but you're right, the controls are like sitting in a helicopter, especially the sound synthesis. Who will be the first to insert AI into the board to control through speech? :)

Would you Please 🙏make a video comparing the Polyphony! Between the Fantom EX8 vs Montage M8x, Does the EX expansion on the Roland increases the Polyphony of the Fantom 8??? Also, lets make a distinction since I heard you say that the Fantom has "unlimited" Polyphony which to my knowledge is ONLY while playing the Piano Engine alone, once you start layering sounds it starts cutting notes. For the many buyers trying to decide which one to buy, Polyphony is Very important. Thanks! Love your Set up!!!!

Kronos is still the best machine out there. But it has such a complex and steep learning curve that most people are not interested in putting the effort to learn programming it. However once you master it no other synth comes even close. I guess Kronos was just too much complex for the majority of people and Korg had to simplify it creating Nautilus. Karma the smart arpeggiator of Kronos, has a software of its own created by Karma Labs, if you know how to use it it is almost having AI in your music creating live with you, it is so deep and powerful like a Pandora's Box but very complex and hard to learn. I have my Kornos X for over 10 years and I am still learning about it. But, one thing is for sure, not going to sell it! Roland for me, as usual is overpriced ant not worth the money they ask for and Yamaha is great in everything they do.

Which one is better for song composing?
@johnnyvlee2 ай бұрын
I'm commenting only 5:30 into your review, so I may add to this. I want to point out that not everyone has the same needs from a workstation. I'm primarily a guitarist, but I want a workstation for two reasons: (1) Adding secondary keyboard parts in a live performance of a cover song with not much guitar going on but a lot of keyboard layers, and (2) Recording my own music at home on Pro Tools. I don't anticipate doing a lot of original music on my keyboard. I was very close to buying a Nautilus. What changed my mind is the lack of controllers. That might not bother me for purpose 1, but it really bothered me for purpose 2. The sounds on the K2700 are excellent, and it meets the requirements for purpose 2 much better than the Korg. I did consider the Roland Fantom, but was never a big fan of the Yamaha sounds for the most part, though I really looked more at the ModX than the Montage to be fair.

Can you show us how easy it is to change 10 registrations on the Korg vs 10 registrations on the Yamaha
@mrdali672 ай бұрын
They would have had to totally reprogram the VLSI's to possible get the SST, which would mean they would have to break with the compatibility and "easy" switch from the smaller SX models or the G1 to the G2. and that is one of Yamaha's key design philosofies, that even you had a Tyros 1 or 2 you won't have big issues with updating as most things is very similar even when switching from an older to a new generation that is over 10 years. Korg is totally software driven so the SST is much easier to implement, where Yamaha have chosen to pre alocate each DSP to each sound channel in the SW70P's, hence you have only SRT between eg Right1, 2 and 3. So you switch from a sound in eg Right 1 to Right 2 and they won't cut off as the sound and effect is already prealocated. So if you are smart and just cycle thru Right 1,2,3 for each sound change and only switch sound on a channel that is not currently enabled it won't be a problem. Only if you constantly use 2 or 3 sounds stacked at once. There is pro and cons on each brand. Even it's nice that the Genos don't weigh a ton, I do wish Yamaha would make their top board more Premium build Quality. As for the keybed Its the exact same FSX bed as featured in Montage and Montage M 6 and 7 models. I still prefere some of Yamahas older keybeds, but I was pleasent surpriced that the aftertouch is much better implemented in the G2 than the G1. The G1 was sluggish and had a big issue with requiring to wait a short time with using aftertouch from the initial hit or it would not trigger the aftertouch. This has been fixed in the G2. IMO the G2 has clearly better instrument sounds than than the Pa5x in most areas but greatly falls behind the Korg in "sound design". It's not a full blown Synth but in the Pa5X you have much better sound edits available. If your not the type that can sit for hours and tailoring each sound tho, the available factory and expansion sounds in the Yamaha is just top notch for the most part while the Korg clearly wins for more "Synth" textures. Yamaha is f***in scared to give their arrangers some better control over the waveforms, just like even most people just use those DX7 factory presets, it's kinda silly they did not add the ability to load DX7 Sysex. a full bank of 32 sounds only uses like max 32k and you have almost 15gb user space for expansions and you mostly just use that for Expansion sounds, Styles and stuff. you can load all your own styles, midifiles, Mp3 and multi pad audio direct from USB. and all the original expansion packs they have released so far only take up like 2gb. But both 2 keyboards is great instruments whatever you like the most .. if you can afford them 😉 The G2 was almost double what I payed for My Kronos 2 🥴 but still worth every penny 😊
