Love that Root Beer burst by the way. I could never find one. That’s my favorite color RS4 as well.

Beautiful collection. I was lucky enough to purchase very early 2008 amber Larrivee RS4 with Lollar pickups. Just as to how great of a guitar the RS4 is, I own several guitars to compare it too. . A Larrivee Baker T, a Gibson Les Paul Standard, a Gibson SG , a Fender American Strat , A Musicman Axis Sport, and a few very nice but more affordable guitars such as Godin, PRS SE, and Epiphone. The two Larrivees are on a whole different level from the others and that’s saying a lot because the others are pretty great. Larrivee makes a super high quality guitar. The RS4 is the best guitar I own hands down. Everything about it screams high quality. The wood, the hardware, the finish work and craftsmanship are top notch. They were pretty pricey brand new but definitely worth it when you looked at what it was. They didn’t cut any corners building these. It’s a shame that they didn’t catch on and were discontinued. I think that if the headstock had said Gibson it would still be in production. People just didn’t want to spend that kind of money on a guitar if it didn’t say Fender, Gibson or PRS on it. It was easily custom shop or PRS level quality. If you can still find one anywhere I’d highly recommend that you grab it.

Great video. I have a 1997 D03E i bought new back then. It is a beautiful guitar with great sound and has done me well. It has a really nice slim neck. I recently played a 2012ish L03 and found the neck to be quite cunky, has Larrivee changed the neck profiles? Another tech question , my D03E came with a tusq nut and saddle, i think the saddle is in need of a replacement now. Do you recommend going for a new bone saddle, seems to be that Larrivee mostly use bone now, would it make a difference. If i was to upgrade the saddle to bone, should the nut also be upgraded to bone. I am a little hesitant to change too much as i dont really want to effect the sound. Also for the life of the guitar i have used Elixir custom light strings on it, would the sound be better if i upped these to standard light guage. Sorry for all the questions. PS you are very blessed to have such an amazing range of Larrivees.

Thank you for the information, it was quite helpful. I've recently grown a fondness for 12 fretters. I was wondering the sonic differences between the SD-44 vs the SD-50. You mentioned some differences in the bass in the video, do you have a video comparing the 2?
@GoldfinchRecording3 ай бұрын
No I don’t. I should. I have several SD’s in my collection. The biggest difference sonically is caused by the size of the soundhole. Changes the bass response a bit.

Hey seeing's your a Larrivee collector just wondering if you could offer some advice? I have an opportunity to buy a L-03 R, price is $1000 US. Has a missing strap end pin and a chip on the headstock that is cosmetic only. I'm an intermediate player wanting a nice quality guitar for private doodling only. Wondering if you think this is a worthwhile purchase, have been contemplating a Martin but am a bit spooked by some of the quality issues I am seeing of late. want something I can grow old with. Cheers in advance for any help you can give.

My first Larrivee was the initial production of the parlors. I bought a maple one in summer of 2000. I wish I could say that I k ew how to play a guitar if that build and that I still had it, alas I do not. They are rather rare where I live and not often for sale locally. I would love to get an 00, parlor or 000 some day . I really enjoy the custom headstock inlay work.

Awesome vid. Thanks for the info! Curious… why prioritize a gloss top on the 40, but not the back/sides? Just to avoid oil marks from hand and arm placement?
@GoldfinchRecording4 ай бұрын
Arm noise when recording mostly. Although honestly the satin tops tend to naturally buff out overtime on the lower bout so it’s mostly a non issue.

I have an L-27(C-19) Flying Eagle, built in Victoria in the spring of 1982. I bought the guitar around 1985 (and traded in my electrical equipment for it, which I have never regretted). It's a wonderful instrument that has acquired an increasingly beautiful, overtone-rich sound over the years. I have other very beautiful guitars, but the Larrive with Venetian cutaway is my favourite.

@dwellerstube11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the video. Beautiful collection but I am surprised to not see an L body. Isn't that the Larrivee signature body style? And thoughts around cutaway vs. traditional? I'm leaning towards a traditional L-09 since I don't go up the neck much higher than the 12th fret, especially on an acoustic. Wonder if the non-cutaway has a little bit more depth or would that just be the variability of guitar to guitar?
@GoldfinchRecording11 ай бұрын
The L-09 is fantastic! This video was more geared towards what I call the “hot-rod vintage” style Larrivee guitars. I will have others that deal more with the L bodies. I have a couple very cool L body videos up already as well.

My wife hastwo Larrivees. An OM5 with maple back and sides. Sound a little like an old Gibson L-00 - very pronounced midrange and articulate sound - play it every day. It's usually in open D. And then a OMV-05 with the venetian cutaway, maple binding, abalone rosette and a more balanced tone. It also has a clear pickguard for a very finger style sort of a luck. Spends most of its time in the case, because she has a Collings OM1A that she likes for standard tuning.

4:08. - The binding is called haringbone. I did some research and arranged a purchase for a friend - "the horror, the horror!" - and discovered the Larrivée OM3, now doubled in price since about 6 years ago. I have a custom flat-top, custom German Brazil rosewood 1984 classical and a Taylor 412ce-N. The OM3 was so simple and elegant (all wood and harringbone binding with open Grover tuners then). I said that it would have been my permanent stage instrument. Another "would have been!"

My brother-in-law in Florida has an LV-05 which I get to play every time I visit from Scotland. I loved it so much I decided to buy a Larrivee. Not so easy in the UK as they are quite rare. Eventually I sourced a 2004 D-05 in "as new" condition so I bought it. Not content with that I wanted one with a rosewood back & sides. Took a while but eventually sourced a 2012 LV-03R in mint condition so I bought it. Now I can't put it down as it sounds so good.

I had a beautiful Larrivée 25 years ago but unfortunately I was broke at the time and had to pawn it. It was the last of my valuables that I could part with. Pretty sure it was worth more than my car and I'm sure I debated on selling the car instead lol. I don't remember a model number but it did have a more jumbo type body and the neck was wider than any "standard" acoustic I knew of at the time. I loved that wider neck as I was a fairly new player and fingerpicking was what I was gravitating to. I sure miss that guitar and what could have been. Those are beautiful guitars, sir. Thank you for the tour. I wish there was a place locally that sold them and I could "test drive" one and own one (or two or three 😂) again.

Have you ever seen a 12 fret L Body built in the Martin style? Meaning an elongated body instead of the typical way of using a 14 fret body with a 12 fret neck and shifted bridge.
@GoldfinchRecording Жыл бұрын
They make a bigger L-body in terms of width and you can get an L with a 12 fret to the body neck but I’ve never seen both. Can be ordered that way but I bet it would take a long time.
