Larrivée Traditional Body Style Differences.

Here is a quick video with some basic descriptions of the differences between the various traditional Larrivée body styles. I go over examples of 40,44,50, and 60 series guitars.

I had a beautiful Larrivée 25 years ago but unfortunately I was broke at the time and had to pawn it. It was the last of my valuables that I could part with. Pretty sure it was worth more than my car and I'm sure I debated on selling the car instead lol. I don't remember a model number but it did have a more jumbo type body and the neck was wider than any "standard" acoustic I knew of at the time. I loved that wider neck as I was a fairly new player and fingerpicking was what I was gravitating to. I sure miss that guitar and what could have been. Those are beautiful guitars, sir. Thank you for the tour. I wish there was a place locally that sold them and I could "test drive" one and own one (or two or three 😂) again.

Hello I also have a few Larrivee guitars fantastic underrated guitars the Jumbos are unbelievable....I store my guitars tuned down a step does anyone else do this ?

Thank you for the information, it was quite helpful. I've recently grown a fondness for 12 fretters. I was wondering the sonic differences between the SD-44 vs the SD-50. You mentioned some differences in the bass in the video, do you have a video comparing the 2?

No I don’t. I should. I have several SD’s in my collection. The biggest difference sonically is caused by the size of the soundhole. Changes the bass response a bit.

Awesome vid. Thanks for the info! Curious… why prioritize a gloss top on the 40, but not the back/sides? Just to avoid oil marks from hand and arm placement?

Arm noise when recording mostly. Although honestly the satin tops tend to naturally buff out overtime on the lower bout so it’s mostly a non issue.

@@davidadkins2563 The 44 series have an entirely different bracing system and a full gloss finish. They are essentially gloss finished 40 series guitar.

Thanks for the video. Beautiful collection but I am surprised to not see an L body. Isn't that the Larrivee signature body style? And thoughts around cutaway vs. traditional? I'm leaning towards a traditional L-09 since I don't go up the neck much higher than the 12th fret, especially on an acoustic. Wonder if the non-cutaway has a little bit more depth or would that just be the variability of guitar to guitar?

The L-09 is fantastic! This video was more geared towards what I call the “hot-rod vintage” style Larrivee guitars. I will have others that deal more with the L bodies. I have a couple very cool L body videos up already as well.

Have you ever seen a 12 fret L Body built in the Martin style? Meaning an elongated body instead of the typical way of using a 14 fret body with a 12 fret neck and shifted bridge.

They make a bigger L-body in terms of width and you can get an L with a 12 fret to the body neck but I’ve never seen both. Can be ordered that way but I bet it would take a long time.
