We reverse build our sets and place them in ziplocs. For larger sets, I may combine several bags into one ziploc. My ultimate goal is to build something like this kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYeZg4iXasiYibc to store them

I get you. There are sets that I was excited to get as well, but after getting and building it, they seem to lose their appeal. I don’t know why but I guess the set didn’t meet some requirement I was expecting of it. Or maybe due to the lack of space.

I prefer now to completely disassemble unless there are assembly pieces with stickers over them. Honestly, I really don’t know what I’m going at this point.

I this yesterday, I almost bought this set, but I want the box to display. I don't want a giant warning label on the front of it, so I didn't buy it.
@jamesrolfe1651Күн бұрын
I disassemble them, clean the parts, catalogue and sort the parts, find the manual, and put the complete set into a storage bin. The bins I use tend to hold 2-3 smaller sets depending on size. 1 modular will fit inside them. If I am doing a whole series, I use a bigger bin and store as many as I can in one bin. For example, I just did all my son’s Minecraft sets and put 25 in each of 2 bins.

Belated happy life day to you and yours😄 I stopped buying "play" sets the last couple of years because of all the great sets aimed at adults, too. I've been strategically giving my older (2016-2021) sets away to kids who I know will enjoy them. The sets I give away, I put back into numbered bags, but I also have sets stored just like yours, waiting to find the right kid for them. It surprises me how good it feels to get rid of those sets, but I'm not a collector of any one theme, though, so it may be easier for me. I know those kids will never appreciate the prints in those sets as much as me😅

I sold 90% of my Star Wars playsets (just keeping UCS sets, helmets & Brickheadz) and it was the best thing I ever did. Even selling as used, I either made money or broke even on most sets. There are too many and they are all over priced.

I bag my sets in the exact same way and have the same space issues😁
@TheOtherGuys2Күн бұрын
Yeah, that's how I tend to take things apart when they're going into storage. Anything that I don't want getting bent, like thin laser cannons, I'll take it off, and anything that's a weak connection that would fall off on its own, or that would make the thing fit in a smaller space. I actually just went through a couple of my bags after my cat tore the bags open, and I repackaged them in one of those big brick buckets. All kinds of classics in there, the 2000 A-Wing, some podracers, an old snowspeeder.. I suppose it would take up less space to dismantle them completely, but if you're keeping them separate anyway, why bother? Lately I've had to do this with more of my city sets than Star Wars. No one wants to buy those ones, so I can't sell 'em, and my city just isn't big enough, and certainly doesn't have the roads, for that many tow trucks and whatnot. I probably ought to put some more of the Star Wars ones away, at least the ones I don't really do anything with. (That is to say, about seventeen thousand speeder bikes and advent calendar minis. And maybe a few others. Side note: There's a 3x3 angle plate on the bottom of that Mandalorian fighter's right wing that's on backwards.

I take sets apart in reverse order of the instructions and number the bags just like the instructions. For older sets, I will mark the bag for which pages of the instructions it goes to. I used to take sets completely apart as a matter of pride, but I've started storing some sections already assembled, like the pool table in the Ghostbusters firehouse, or sections of wall and flood. I would never get that set rebuilt every year if I didn't do that.

I guess im the opposite of most lego star wars fans. While the UCS sets are really cool and display well, i prefer the playset vehicles better. They're alot cheaper, fun to build in one sitting and much more swooshable. 😂 But man its hard to walk by the sail barge, at-at, and falcon ucs displays at the lego store.
@BricksOnAnIslandКүн бұрын
😳 a Jedi Oswald? Padavan or Master? Putting away sets is always hard.... I used to re-store them in the original boxes, but more than one set in one box. Like: the sets from the 1995 adventure theme, the one with the yellew vehecles, all fitted into the biggest box. But it hurts to store things away.
@joe-bowlingКүн бұрын
I store multiple sets in a single box. I used to keep all the boxes and it was a mess, so earlier this year I went through everything and started getting rid of small boxes and combining sets in the large boxes, and I keep a spreadsheet that lists what sets are in each box.

It is genuinely ridiculous how much Lego boxes and instructions can sell for. I'm sure I've got lots of the old instructions, and even some boxes. Maybe I should look them up and see what they sell for. Wait a sec, how are there boxes selling in 'new' condition? If the box is not used, it should still have the set in it!

Generally speaking, given the cost of the BDP sets, LEGO does not pass on the savings to the customers. So they should be making the instruction books for those that do receive the sets in box.

I recently got The Daily Bugle building, and plan to build it without damage. I have a few Super heroes in my city and guess I will have a few more after building the Bugle. The Batman signal is placed on top of the Ghostbustrs HQ, but I plan to build a MOC police station (Police HQ) and put it there when it is done.

Genuinly enjoy the show, and I know you guys were just having fun, but i think what is actually wrong with society is lack of empathy for other people's lived experiences. I am happy you have never had to come to terms with a brand marketing a product that profits from a racial stereotype that targets you, but i when i put on my empathy hat and think about it from someone else's perspective (i.e. be empathetic) i could see how they would feel that is pretty messed up.

Yeah, you can never be sure when a package arrives like that. I had a set I'd ordered right from Lego arrive, and the shipping box was torn open, the set box inside was torn open, and the bags and parts inside were all loose and floating around in there. Made the Parisian Restaurant a slightly nervous build... Now my question is, who looked at that set with two airplanes, and said "Hey, you know what'd be better than two airplanes? One airplane and a car. Kids would love that way more."? Side note, I believe the German fighter plane used in the film was actually a Swiss-made flight trainer aircraft.

Hey Alex, I was very touched and also laughed about your best burger ever comment. You asked the camera to guess the best burger you’ve ever had, I answered to the screen- “Nation’s” before you said Giant burger in Fremont. We agree to agree. The chain is called “Nation’s” Giant Hamburger there are a few of them throughout Northern California. I grew up with them in my hometown and their burgers can’t be beat. - Agree!

250 $ for a Lego instruction is way out of reach for me. I'd rather use the digital instruction. If I wanted a specific modular and it was 200 $ less, I guess I would buy it without the instruction. I just flatened all my boxes to save space. On the other hand, I will never throw away my paper instructions, even those for the small sets.
