I truly apreciate the community that this podcast and the afool podcast has brought together. It is a fun, safe, and engaging space where people get the experience of the lego collecting and building journey. Also where we can not take ourselves too seriously

Dennis and I both grew up in states with Cornish mining heritage so pasties are big in my state too. Eastern California mining towns have the same heritage. 30:26 it’s a real thing. Coca Cola. I have to get creative with space a lot in my city

Made it to the end as always, well worth it for the sponsor segment! 😅 I always cringe a bit when people call me smart. I've been told I was my whole life but I always felt more like John Hammond. Standing on the shoulders of geniuses and taking the next step. Thanks for the kind words either way. To me the electronics are easy but I envy what others can do artistically with Lego, that's where I struggle

2:04:41 I’m still watching. And about old photos. I have spent a lot of time in the past week going through old family photos for a memorial service, it was so fun seeing pictures from when my sisters and I were growing up. And to hear today’s little ones in awe that we didn’t have cell phones and asking why did you have neighborhood parades of kids on bikes or in wagons or on scooters without motors?

I WANTED Alex to be in Billund with the other social media people because that would have made a trip to Denmark MEANIGFUL to me. Yes, flight tickets to Utah are still expensive, Petrol for a drive to Billund is much cheaper. Concerning Alex's medieval world: I like that it is not as dense as the "normal"/"modern" city. // I tried to MILS-plate my wife's Dectective's Ofiice/Barber Shop after it was finished - wow, that was tricky!

@dl-bricks smoothly stepping in with an epic reference to emergency backup goalies and then he performs as strongly as Torontonian Zamboni driver David Ayres back in 2020 when he had to do goalie duty for North Carolina and helped them beat home team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. I think the entire arena was on Ayres side that day. Great job, Dennis!

Regarding the modular releasing on December 1, I never knew why LEGO released anything on January 1. I would look for sets to get my kids for Christmas and see a bunch I thought they would like but not releasing until January 1 when the holidays are over.

Epic sponsorship video! It was worth cringing through two hours of me umm-ing and pausing as I tried to be clever; podcast hosting is harder than it looks.

@dl_bricks I didn't notice anything wrong about your speaking, but we're all our own worst critics, right? I enjoyed hearing your thoughts and perspectives and in many cases it sounded like I was hearing myself. (Like the Pantasy Sherlock Holmes set where you said the bricks felt like they had to be pressed together a bit harder; I noticed that too and I had the most trouble getting the paint roller pieces into the hollow studs for the lights over the fireplace.) I enjoy seeing scenes from your city and who knows, maybe I'll bump into you at a Brickworld someday. And yes, the AFOOL sponsor video was tremendous!

Hey, great to see fellow Hoosier AFOL @dl_bricks again! I was still in a dark age when the Monster Fighters theme retired and the Haunted House set is my white whale. My next Community Commentary will probably be Star Trek themed as I've acquired a few new sets since Brickworld.

My modulars are not on MILS plate and I do bring them for display once in a while. They aren't that difficult to move. I'd rather spend the money on more sets than on mils plates that nobody will see at the end of the day.

Had to comment on this as I've only caught up in the past week on the 'recent' podcasts. But how have you not heard the original novelty song of 'Istanbul' by The Four Lads in the '50s? I had actually heard the They Might Be Giants version first, but eventually heard the original version and have preferred it ever since.

I might buy most of my Lego second-hand, but I will still buy multiple copies of a set. Often I'll get one to have the set itself, and another to have my custom modification of the set. Some things it's just cool to have two of though, like that new interstellar spaceship. Or Oswald. Or a tipper truck.

I assumed that not allowing zoos or stuff like that in the bricklink designer program was because it’d be super expensive to source 1000s of animals, especially if they’re from retired sets. Imagine trying to buy 30,000 goats a year ago and what that would have done to the price both of the set they were trying to sell but also the aftermarket price of the animal element

Funwhole and other companies have been forced to change some molds because of Lego copyrights. That's why some of their pieces look a little weird.

If adults don’t like it. It because that’s not made for adults. And adults are mad because the stuff adults want don’t hit clearance. If adults didn’t spend all their money on LEGO. Sales would decline and they would make less and adults would complain cause all they are for making ate all these crappy sets for kids. Sometimes you can’t win and some people aren’t happy unless they have something to complain about. Man I miss Alex rant so I’m trying to fill in. And by the way. LEGO don’t care about the resale market. They welcome all speculators. Keep buying we keep making

The Lego bubble will eventually burst and those who bought into it as an investment will eventually get hit hard depending on how big they went in. That’s just my opinion though.

"Adult fans are ruining Lego." I agree in some ways and disagree in others. I think adult fans, or maybe more accurately adult buyers, are making a mess of the secondary market, which annoys me to no end. One person buys a Boba Fett minifig for $3000, and suddenly no seller will accept any less. And the primary market is kinda getting messed up too. I mean, I'm pretty sure Lego's price increases have outpaced inflation at least in some cases. When you can get Star Wars sets that have 130 pieces for $50 (US) that are clearly aimed at kids.. well it's not kids buying that, it's the adults. And it costs that much because adults will pay that much.
