Why can't they wear wet suits? Would that slow them down?

What wonderful prosthesis legs he has. Those do not at all look like 1940's technology. My grandfather lived with us. He lost his leg below the knee, so his stump resembled a dog's head. He would move his stump below the knee and bark at us kids - a bit of a laugh. But I suspect this man's first legs might have been similar to my grandfather's. If you think of a pirate's peg leg. It was a length of 3/4" galvanised pipe. A rubber bung where a shoe should be. A carved wooden yoke to fit the stump, held on by buckled leather straps. To limit abrasion, he had several layers of soft fabric, and he treated his stump with lotions and mercurochrome every night. I recall him returning from the limb factory in the mid 1960's with his new state of the art leg. It still had no shoe, but it was fibreglass and so much lighter. Today that leg would be so basic that nobody would respect it, but it was life changing for him. So I look at legs and often chat with those who wear them. That is one area of medicine and rehab that truly has advanced - no doubt about it.

Well, the maggots might be disgusting (and it absolutely is) but there's a beneficial point to them at least : They eat dead tissues, so it will prevent your limb to rot and potentially kill you

He talks and walks so confidently for a man in his 90s. Much better than some of my great uncles in their 70s and mind you they all still have their legs.
